Elsa Mayer
This 17-year-old orphan of Putayal is quite the village pride. Not only has Elsa survived her family through tragedy and immense hardships, she took upon herself the hardships of other youth by opening her home to other orphans.
TRAGEDY STIKES
At 10 years old, Elsa was attacked by a bear in the woods near her village.Out on a walk with her mother, along with Lyndle O'Brien(a family friend) the three were attacked in a small clearing near the O'Brien farm. Lyndle was attacked first and severely mauled by the beast. When Elsa screamed in fear, the bear turned on her, swiping her aside.
Her mother darted between child and beast, distracting the bear, but sacrificing her life in doing so.
Silas O'Brien heard the screams nearby and with axe in hand, fought the bear off, saving the child.
FURTHER TRAGEDY
Three weeks after her mother's death, Elsa's father Camber Mayer was pulling stumps with his horses when the chains snapped. Camber suffered a mortal stomach wound and died soon after. Elsa was left to fend for herself and the family sawmill.GROWING UP
From the time her parents died when she was 10 years of age, Elsa was taken under the wing of Old Mayson , the owner of The Den within the village of Putayal . There she worked with Mayson's daughter Gin in the cleaning of the tavern, learning to cook, bake and do basic maintenance and upkeep. Elsa was loved, appreciated and cared for, but her heart always longed for the home of her parents.SWEET 16 TO MOTHER OVERNIGHT
When hunger and the Grey Cough hit Putayal in 6736s, many families suffered, leaving a handful of orphans.Few stepped in to gather the children of these stricken families. Most turned their backs and kept to their own, fearful the Grey Cough was a sign of the gods.
Elsa reached out, leaving the kindness of Old Mayson and returned to her family's property, opening her home to the children who lost parents. Though most were eventually claimed over time by extended family, Elsa continues to raise and play mother to five (5) orphans, whom she now considers her siblings:
- Timothy: 11 (m) Smart, brave, dedicated to his siblings, adopted siblings and Elsa. Has a bother, Kale (8) and sister, Shayle (4).
- Kale: 8 (m), curious, loud, comical—extremely blunt. Wants to be like his big brother and is always getting into trouble—steals—but no malice.
- Shayle: 4 (f), wants to be helpful so she can be ‘one of the big people.’ Scared of the dark and noises at night—needs comforting and direction.
- Jacob: 8 (m), quiet but full of energy—plotter—and very close to Kale (thick as thieves). Very helpful and loyal. Is dedicated to his little, Lyndie, for all her needs first.
- Lyndie: 6 (f), bossy, wants to be like Elsa and plays the ‘mother’ of the house when Elsa’s not home. The boys let her. Very smart, remembers EVERYthing.
FAMILY TIES
Elsa has one older brother, Vall Mayer, who left Putayal when she was 8 years old.His love for magic and desire to take up studies as a mägo did not go over well with the locals of Putayal. The intense scrutiny compelled Vall to leave home at an early age, never to return.

Elsa is a beautiful young woman with a personality and intelligence to enhance that same attraction most find compelling.

Several deep and long scars run down her left cheek, from hairline to jawbone--the lasting effects of the bear attack.
Physical quirks
She has a bounce in her step when happy and has a tendency to giggle when someone around her is surprised in her presence.
Mental characteristics
Education
Elsa has lived a life in the rugged mountains since birth and has been forced, due to circumstances, to learn how to care for herself and to provide for others at a very young age. She's been trained in cooking, Cleaning, Leatherworking, Sewing, Husbandry, reading, writing and basic math skills. Most of this was done courtesy of Old Mayson to prepare Elsa to take over her family Mill.
Employment
Elsa continues to work at The Den as a barmaid and part-time cook.
Failures & Embarrassments
Elsa attempted to reopen the Mayer Mill when she turned 12 (under the encouragement of Old Mayson and support of the mill manager, Downing). Six months after the mill was opened, a fire broke out and consumed the three buildings.
Though most looked upon the accident as bad luck, whispers say a fair part of the community believe the Mayer family to be cursed.

Mental Trauma
The experience of being attacked by a bear, let alone at such a young age has left many mental scars on Elsa. She fears to be alone, outside in the dark. She also fears the forest at night, always seeking company when having to travel, especially among the trees.
Relationships
Relationship Reasoning
Jan has watched over Elsa since her parents died, thus her welfare is important to him if nothing but out of respect for the family who gave him a new life.
"Elsa's the brightest star of Putayal. I would wish her all the happiness in the world, but fer that ya need a man, and the only men of THIS village are fools!"
