The Den

In a tiny mountain village called Putayal, a retired farmer wanted a better life. He wanted a way to be of service to those of his community, make a little coin...and to stay indoors during the heat of summer and the cold of winter. With a knack for cooking and making fermented drinks, Old Mayson took his cheese cave and started digging further into the hillside.   By fall that year, and with the help of a few of the local craftsmen, The Den was open for business.   It's continued to grow as woodmasters flocked to the village to hone their craft.

Purpose / Function

The Den is Putayal's only tavern and serves as the local gathering place. The tavern provides simple foods supported by the local wildlife and Old Mayson's personal garden, drinks (both sweet teas and fermented drinks of all kinds--mainly berry meads) and on most nights, entertainment.   The tavern has also been used for village meetings, contract negotiations between merchants and artisans and has also been used to house the poor during intense winter storms.

Alterations

The original structure had dirt floors for the first couple of years. A layer of sun-dried brinks were added thereafter,...with a heavy wood floor added when the Camber Mayer opened the Mayer Mill.   The storage and curing rooms have been enlarged over time, as well as a new stage crafted for local talent night.   Yes, they get that bored.
"Best food you can buy in the region...even if it's the ONLY food you can buy."
— Graden, merchant

"Been here since The Den wasn't much more than a hole in the ground. Wood floors don't make it any more than what it already was...a place for friends to drink, laugh and shut the darkness out."
— Caleb, forester
