Session 79: Demon Drop

General Summary

The party and the duergar scouting party they encountered in the Lost Level of Undermountain thought they found the Tomb of Melair, the ancient king of Clan Melairkyn. However when the duergar opened the sarcophogus they all were immediately attached by animated battleaxes. Once the battleaxes were dealt with, the party looks into the sarcophogus and see tattered robes. The party deduces this likely is a false tomb.   Using their maps the party finds another nearby secret door that leads them to another large room with 4 dwarven statues. The statues represent the dwarven deities Moradin (god of creation), Berronar Truesilver (god of hearth and home), Clangeddin Silverbeard (god of battle), and Marthammor Duin (god of exploration).   Andryn Stormpeak hears a voice in her head begging for someone to release them from these statues. They were placed there to protect the king but the king is long dead. Feeling badly for them, Andryn muses outloud that maybe destroying the statues will do something. The duergar immediately attack the statues releasing 4 demons into the room. Chaos ensuses as the demons fairly quickly rock both parties. The demons cast Confusion, stunning with horrific shrieks, and just beat the shit out of them until Cameron throws the Dust of Disappearance to make his friends, and him, invisible.   Half of the duergar are killed. The rest, and the party, flee to the chamber they just came from. The duergar decide they need to find their commander Nimira Doomsorrow and tell her what's occurred. They split from the party who find a chamber to take a short rest.   Once rested, the party sneaks back to the room with the demons who are now prowling the corridors. They find the actual tomb of King Melair. Inside they find an adamantine war pick, a +1 sentinal shield, and The Belt of Dwarvenkind. They debate on taking the hand of the skeleton inside since they've learned that to open the Temple of Dumathoin they need "a hand of a king". Thredd Dorselar takes it while Andryn pretends not to see.   As they begin to leave Thredd is attacked by an invisible force. They realize one of the invisible stalkers they saw when they first arrived here has found them. It takes out Thredd as Cameron Overholt and Andryn try to destroy it before she's fully dead. They're eventually successful but Thredd has taken some big hits.   The party heads back to the chamber they previously rested in and hunker down for a long rest after a very long day. Thredd attunes to the Belt of Dwarvenkind.
