Session 80: So We Meet Again

General Summary

Having taken a long rest, the part ventures out again into the Lost Level of Undermountain. They start to head back the way they came when they are waylaid by an umberhulk. The umberhulk disorients Thredd Dorselar and Cameron Overholt, but Andryn Stormpeak manages to shake off the effect. The party eventually defeats the umberhulk but the doorway they were trying to get through is rubble. They decide to cast gaseous form on themselves. They find the Tomb of Duathoin where the remaining duergar are posted up. Nimira Doomsorrow is there with what's left of her expedition. The party sees that the demons they accidentally freed the day before had attacked Nimira's people. They leave the room, drop their gaseous form and reenter to try and parlay with the duergar. The duergar are hostile and wary but have taken enough hits they don't want another fight. Nimira recognizes the party and wants to know what the party is doing here. The party taunts her a bit and she tells them they should leave. The party start toward the dias in the room that has a large double door, saying they merely want a quick look. Nimira allows them and they realize the statue on the dias will kill anything that comes close. Thredd manages to make out the following inscription on the door: “It is the will of the Keeper of Secrets under the Mountain that only the hand of the king may open these doors. Let all who enter gaze upon the heart of Melairbode and know the true power of dwarvenkind.” The party leaves, takes a short rest, and goes over their options. They decide to try to get one of the demons to attack the duergar, but as they walk down a hallway, magical hands reach out and grab Cameron. The undead hands begin to pull Cameron into the wall. Andryn and Thredd try to help but Thredd is caught up as well. The party is making a lot of noise and the doors they just escaped through suddenly burst open. Nimira and one of her people appear and help the party. Nimira, with some smugness, comments that the party didn't make it very far.
