Republic of Argothenge
The Republic of Argothenge, also known as the Old Elvish Empire, was a thalassocracy that is considered to be the first organized state in the history of West-Argo.
History
The history of the Republic of Argothenge is, like many things relating to the elves, largely a mystery that was lost together with their cultural supremacy at the end of the Age of Creation. Yet in the oral traditions of the Eldar peoples, parts of their history is preserved in a collection of poetic works and sagas. From these sagas, it can be assumed that the Republic was founded somewhere in the early 18th century AoC, although sources differ on its exact year. In the centuries before its founding, the elves had steadily grown in number, as well as in their dispersion across the coasts of what would much later be called Vexan . These early settlements of elvish colonists would often consist of singular families, which evolved over time to be tribes that often were still led by their common ancestral father. Yet around these years it was that the elves grew to such numbers that to feed them, their farmlands would encroach further upon the inlands, angering the other creatures that inhabited those lands, chief among them the Itlor giants and the insectoid Agðonnum. A violent string if wars would erupt that would not cease until the end of the age, yet it this strife that led the elves to seek further cooperation with eachother. It led to series of councils, in which High Senator Aedriel Idrytís managed to unite the elvish tribes peacefully into a a unified state, where the leaders of the tribes would send an emissary to the capital to speak in his name. Together, using a system of democratic voting, the Republic was built. The Republic would endure until it was violently brought to an end by the Abyssal Flu at the end of the Age of Creation, although it's mark upon the world remains significant until the present day.
