The Urungká - East-Folk

The People of Urunkhar

Also known as the Urung Dwarves, the East Dwarves are the second of the three major Dwarven people's that occupy the world. Short and stout like their western cousins, they have long been interacting closely with the non-dwarven world, leading them to be more involved in the matters of geopolitics over the course of history, as well as being a people more open to strangers than the West-Folk.

History

The Great Dwarven Schism

After Maraman created Bheor, the First Dwarf, beneath Mt. Bromelêk in the Age of Creation, the first dwarves soon roamed all across the the Matûrad, known as the "Middebeorge", meaning Middle Mountains to the Melisternian humans, expanding their numbers and spreading in the vast tunnels and caverns of the mountains. For centuries they tamed the land, yet when the land had been stabilized and the first king of Abrazâr was crowned, a division appeared within the realm. There were those, who now their works of taming were finished wished to live in this land in peace and stability, to leave the whirling of the world to others. On the other hand there were those that now their home was built, wished to spread into the wider world, may it be for conquest or trade, or simply because the flame of curiosity was burning within them. Yet while king Bheor the Great lived, stability was retained, largely due to the popularity of his reign.

The Great Dwarven Migration

After the king died in 1238 AoC, the division became more visible and led to a great deal of unrest, with the two camps quickly resorting to violence. After at the climax of this period, the great volcano resting beneath Durulh, the capital of the kingdom, erupted and killed many thousands including the new king, the conflict escalated into full civil war between various claimants to the throne. The group known as the Loyalists, made up of those willing to seal their nation off, fought the Usurpers, those who wished to focus the realm to the outside world. The war lasted for years, until many of the Usurpers fled eastward and became a third group known as the Prospectors, who abandoned their realm in order to build a new home in the grand mountains of the East Wall. Eventually, the civil war concluded with the Traditionalists claiming victory, with many of the surviving Usurpers spreading out across the world.

The migration of the Prospectors, nowadays known as the Great Dwarven Migration, came not without its perils, as many were struck down by either sickness or elven spear, yet after two years the bulk of the migrants arrived at a vast stretch of uninhabited mountains, with silver streams and lush valleys. They called this land Urunkhar, the Eastern Realms.

The Old Kingdom & The 27 Warlords

With the Urungi settling themselves within their new land, they quickly would expand to encompass all the uninhabited lands north of the later city of Melistern. At first, the region was united under one ruler, with the Urlûk clan becoming its first and only royal dynasty of the Kingdom period. As after 400 years of progressively chaotic rule, the realm fell apart into 27 little states, mostly centered around towns, valleys and strategical positions. The realm, now disunited, fell into anarchy, with the warlords fighting both each other as well as anything outside its realm for the next 6 centuries until some hegemony was established by the 6 of the most powerful warlords.

The Rise of the Princedoms

The new hegemony of the 6 warlord quickly rose over the course of the next century to become the Princedoms of Urunkhar. Not willing to call themselves King before reuniting the land to avoid destabilizing their newfound order, their rulers would call themselves Prince only. Over the course of the next 800 years, the realms would grow in number and size, with new lands being colonized to the south. With the rise of the Melistern Empire in the lands to the west, the new superpower would force the dwarves to expand mostly to the south, as to the east both the eldar of Saiko as well as the Ki'ilanu apefolk held a strong hand on their lands. The realm would face new struggles when the Prince of Tohrbad would break the long standing peace between the Princes and fight to reunite the realms of Urunkhar.

The Birth of the Grand Knyazate

By the last century of the First Age of the Man the Grand Knyzate of Urunkhar was formerly founded by the legendary Prince Grumboris VI, now called Grand-Knyaz Melitov I of Urunkhar. The newly reunited realm quickly stabilized before turning their strenght to the colonies to the south. Over the next 1000 years, all the Eastwall would come to fall under its banner, with at its highest point the borders stretching from the northern coasts of Bočechnia to the East Bank in the south. The realm would go on to make a permanent mark on the history of the continent, just as their Prospector ancestors intended to.
