History
Katye and Hector became friends in childhood, remaining close until her father began pressuring her to choose a husband. Hector proposed a political marriage which would allow them both to continue to pursue their chosen relationships. Their resulting relationship has been content and joyful for all parties involved.
Commonalities & Shared Interests
Technically, Katye and Hector are cousins, as their grandparents were siblings (Queen Jennifer Varin married King Rosher Hadleigh, Hector's grandfather and Lord Salem Varin, brother to the queen, is Katye's grandfather). But Hector likes to make jokes about the family shrub regularly and everyone just shrugs it away. It's not even a technical genetic issue, given that the actual heir to the title isn't even related to his "father."
Shared Acquaintances
They are both married to Simon the horseman.
History
Marina and Katye were introduced as children and became quick friends. During their teens, they spent a lot of time together and Marina's family was briefly worried Katye would corrupt their daughter, as Katye had already started showing her preference for women and gender-neutral presentation. Once Marina had been affianced to Geoffrey, Katye was delighted to have her friend staying closer.
Shared Secrets
Marina knew about Katye's dual marriage to Hector Hadleigh-Morgan and Simon Garde.
History
When Linus was still a child, Katye formally approved his playing with her children, especially because Linus's level-headed approach to social interactions helped to keep both Nolan and Ginny from doing anything too disastrous. As an adult, Katye admires Linus and continues to approve his association with her family. She suspects he's been sleeping with Nolan for a few years now, though revises this opinion when she observes his reaction to Ginny's return from school.
History
Katye was 15 when her father's bastard son was born. After her mother's death in 610, Katye was appalled to discover that her father's mistress had been given quarters within Varin castle and her son was being educated as a noble. Katye felt this was a betrayal of her mother's memory, but eventually came to know both Clara Rivermaid and her son, Matthew as family. Brother Markus grew up a little bit in fear of his half-sister. Katye was never quiet about her resentment regarding the timeliness of Clara's addition to the family and Markus learned early in his life to steer clear when Katye was "in a mood." By the time he was in his early teens, however, Katye had been formally betrothed to Hector Hadleigh-Morgan and Markus's own path into the clergy was set.
Shared Secrets
Markus presided over his sister's dual marriage to Hector and Simon. As a brother of the Loving Scales, he will always keep their secrets and they will always keep his.
Relationship Reasoning
Much of Clara's relationship to Katye is contingent on Katye's tolerance of Clara continuing to live in her family's castle. Since Katye is presently living in Grimm Castle and Lord Rion seems to still enjoy Clara's company, Katye sees no issue with allowing the residence to continue.
History
While they were growing up, Alexia gave her older sister a great deal of trouble for Katye's preferred gender-neutral presentation. It wasn't until they were both older that they made peace with their past and Katye even stood up as Sir Ian's First Knight at Ian and Alexia's wedding in 610.
