Naylor claims to have spent from late autumn 625 to midsummer of 628 in the company of merfolk. He says he learned their language and their culture, as well as their techniques for fishing the larger pod fish like Pikaen whales. He has detailed his experiences at length in a series of books, several collections of songs, a full compendium of language and numerous works of sculpture and charcoal drawings. While most people discount his stories as fiction and fantasy, many point to the volume of his work as indicative that he experienced something in those three years.

Naylor served on the Mosakki Star when Jostif had retired from active sailing and was sponsoring merchant trips from Star Cliffs. Jostif met with Naylor many times, eventually promoting him to captain of the Mosakki Star in 622.
Commonalities & Shared Interests
When Naylor went missing in 625, Jostif was shaken and grieved for his lost friend. When he returned in 628 with stories of merfolk, Jostif was one of the only people who believed him without question, even taking the time to learn Nushanga.
