Royal Marines

The Royal marines are an elite military force whose purpose is to be the personal miltary of the monarch. They are resposible for the protection of the reigning monarch and the defense of the royal family. As they are sworn not only to the existing King or Queen, but to the throne of Woodangees, in the event of a monarchs death the Marines would almost immedietly shift to defending whoever the presumed heir would be. In the event the death was by assassination, an event that would be regarded as a devastating failure of the Royal Marines, they would also seek to avenge the monarchs death is possible. The Royal Marines are seperate from the rest of the military   With their roots in the Woodangian Civil War, the Royal Marines started off by recruiting amongst the veterans of the Royalist forces as well as absorbing multiple royalist militias, leading to controversing as some of their early high ranking members where acused of and sometimes admitted to commiting war crimes during the war.

I find it interesting that they are only sworn to the monarch and the throne. I can't help but wonder what happens if parliment disagrees with the monarch, or worse, if the monarch decides the constitution doesn't apply to them...

that's sort of the idea honestly, they were created after the King waged a civil war to reclaim his families throne. the very idea is to have a force that will readily fight on his side should another civil war break out.
