Duchy of Lilyveil

Founded in 841, the Duchy of Lilyveil was risen from the downtrodden settlers of the City States of Vedania. Fleeing perpetual civil wars and oppressive rulers, the settlers wished to create their ideal way of living. Free from injustice, war and monsters that prowl the night. Unfortunately, it was not so. Shortly after the founding days, by 850 war had already broke out between the two houses of Lily and Frost. Each pieing for more power and land. The nation was insignificantly small but attracted warmongers and mercenaries from across the world, particularly Vedania. The war of Lily and Frost was short lived but brutal, fought in the frigid cold winter of 850. By spring of 851 the duchy was risen from the ashes of war and the house of Frost dissolved into memory. The House of Lily have maintained control of the land for nearly a thousand years, seeing a degree of peace from outside threats. Ruled by Archduke and Archduchess Vembrace, the House of Lily are relatively hands-off rulers. Allowing the various settlements to govern themselves to a decent degree. In addition to these difficulties, the Duchy still contends with supernatural menaces. The frost-antlered shades of the Strovian Forest and the cursed ruins of Frostrift Castle, ignored during the war, remain threats as well. Yet this cold and perilous land holds wonder, too. Lilyveils' immense forests, white-crowned mountains of the Windswept Peaks, and snow-swept steppes are starkly beautiful. Scattered among them are the bones and dreams of dead generations, some who tried to tame an unyielding land and some who sought escape from the horrors of a seemingly endless war. All of them, and all their treasures, have vanished under snow and trees—but not all are forgotten. The native people of Lilyveil are hard-bitten folk, mostly hunters and herders with a dark, superstitious worldview shaped by their unforgiving land. Beauty, danger and wonder await those brave enough to embrace the wilds of the country.
