House of Lily
The House of Lily have been on the forefront of liberty within the western hemisphere for nearly a thousand years. Although their nation is small, their message is mighty. Freedom from control of vile overlords such as the ones in the City States of Vedania, is just part of their ideals. Having been refuges from Vedania, the folk of Lilyveil don't wish to be ruled under the thumb of lords and ladies. While technically Lilyveil is an Archduchy, the Duke and Duchess don't meddle in the affairs of the individual cities. To prove that the people wish to remain independent, when in 850 the House of Frost attempted to do just that, control the people of the land. After a brutal winter of warfare known as the War of Lily and Frost, House Lily emerged victorious. The House of Lily holds a Retainer Lord in charge of the settlements in Lilyveil, all Retainer Lords of any city down to a hamlet hold the same amount of respect and control as another. Leading to a parlimentary system within the country, where votes are counted from the population to dictate policy. The Archduke and Archduchess Rembry and Luceil Vembrace are little more than symbolic figureheads. All of the Retainer Lords are considered to be symbolic members of the House of Lily. The Archduchy maintains a standing army of two battalians of infantrymen, and four companies of cavalry as a professional volunteer army. With another two thousand trained militiamen that can be activated at any time.
The border with the City States of Vedania is heavily regulated and is considered a guarded roadway that leads northward to Pav Ature. To the south, the Duchy of Grenbell remain at odds with Lilyveil, scoffing at their approach to governance. The House of Lily maintain good trade agreements with other republics in the west, such as the Republic of Dolene and Republic of Idland.
