Port Deepwater
Oval walls hewn of ancient stone and laden in disrepair, give way to the clearly impoverished city. People wander around seemingly as though they were zombies, most appear to be sick, malnourished and exhausted. Beggars line the walls of buildings in droves beckoning for you to hand them coin, and pay no mind to the rain that falls in heavy waves into the streets. The gutters are overflown, and the shattered cobbled streets are now more so mud, that of cut stone. Crows fly about overhead, landing every so often, only to caw at passerby’s mockingly. The city is dim, even for the sparse intervals that separate the lanterns lining the street-way, the smell of the whale oil fills your nostrils with a pungent thick smoke, making your eyes water. The city blocks are separated by small alleyways that are darker than night, each one you pass by, harbors a different sound or smell, vulgar noises can be heard, echoing off the alley building walls. You pass by no guards, but many women of ill repute, standing in groups of three underneath crumbling wooden shack overhangs. They bend forward pressing their hands against their chests, calling for you to take a chance with them. Passing by a smoldering building from what must have been a recent fire, you see a child, covered in black soot, clutching a dolls head, she looks up at you through a tangled mess of hair, and stares at you.
Port Deepwater being a hub of trading, is built along the coast, its streets rise up a slope, that ends in a massive hill. The top of the hill is what is called Manor Hill, where the elite and rich sit in a gated community of debauchery and lavish homes of oak wood and stone. Manor Hill is a bright place, the sky above it is illuminated, unlike the rest of the landscape. No soldiers or guards exist here, only nefarious mercenaries, and they dwell on constant guard around The Hills perimeter. It is well known that many gangs inhabit Port Deepwater, quietly in control of whatever money doesn’t make its way to the nobles and the Count.
