Cobalt Residuum

Properties

Material Characteristics

This residuum comes in multiple forms. The main composition is the pulverized Cobalt, which makes a silica version of this arcane component. The other form is when the silica powder is superheated, and it forms a royal blue glass substance.

History & Usage

History

Iken Rhineforrel, the Cobalt Master, learned many ways of how to harness the uses of Cobalt. However, he wasn't entirely responsible for figuring out how to manufacture this form of Cobalt. The Gnomes of Hillderan learned of the properties of various crushed materials, including Cobalt Residuum. They discovered the properties of Pavian Blackpowder as well as the enchanting properties Cobalt Residuum has.

Discovery

The origins of how Cobalt Residumm started in Hillderan are unknown. However, some scholars believe Hillderan was the first settlement of any Gnome survivors of the destruction of Arpyneaketh. They also think that the process of creating Cobalt Residuum hasn't changed since that time.

Everyday use

The use for Cobalt Residuum has elements for creating magical items. It is used as a catalyst of arcane components and can replace any missing spell component. The best understanding is that cobalt residuum can replace a precise amount of spell components based on their gold value.

Cultural Significance and Usage

The Gnomes of Hillderan have been refining cobalt residuum on and off again for years. Some years it is very profitable for the settlement while some years it has been laking. When they aren't prosperous with residuum sales, they are thriving with Pavian Blackpowder sales. As of late, cobalt residuum is the most profitable for the Gnomes of Hillderan.
