Tomasz van Aggenfurt, Lord of Bertraggen
Tomasz van Aggenfurt's rise to Lordship of Bertraggen was a dubious one from the perspective of other provinces. Lord Mannius van Tugwald, aging lord of Bertraggen, has left the position to Tomasz after his own children were killed in ambuscades in the forest around the town. Barely a year after signing his testament in 428 YoU, Mannius died himself, and Tomasz inherited the title and privileges.
The new lord quickly sorted out some long standing issues regarding Bertraggen's position within the Realm as he started to deliver the taxes to Realm's fortress of Blesdwachst and telling the lords of the Far Lands and Twin River lands to pick them up from there. Thus Tomasz showed that he had no interest to be involved in the dispute between the two provinces about whom his loyality belonged to. The lords of Omarim and Hundsted were left to quarrel about how to split the taxes at the feet of the Realm's army instead of sending emissaries to Bertraggen to deliver their demands.
That act of defiance made him a figurehead of the 'Hinterlands' and other many other smaller local nobles decided to follow his lead and no longer feel obliged to listen to summon from the two major lords.
Tomasz also never bothered to visit Eversted since taking office, showing complete disregard towards the council and its rulings. Some claimed that he challenged anyone who demanded something from Bertraggen to tell it to his face, daring them to make the journey to the remote region.
Under his rulership Bertraggen had still regulary supplied volunteers to the defense of the Realm, especially during the Goblin Invasion of 435 YoU, but it was never under his mandate or under his official leadership.
Tomasz van Aggenfurt was known to not have the best of relationships with neither of the two main churches of the region - the church of the Child and the church of Caldys. Some even claim that his strenuous relationship with priest of Caldys included surreptitious acts of violence, but these rumours were never proven.
