Wanderer's Charm
Navigating the deserts of Norrab is a tricky task. The ever-shifting sand dunes make the lives of even the most experienced nomads difficult. The wanderer's charm is a magical item used to aid in navigation.
Legends say the first charm was made of the scales of a golden witherback cobra. Today, these charms can be bought at any convenience store round any desert region on the planet, for just a small price and a donation of blood.
Design
These spherical amulets hang around one's neck, the disc measuring ten centimetres in diameter.
Embedded into the golden frame are three crystals. The purple crystal is magically enhanced with stellamancy, or star magic. The red is enhanced with terramancy, or earth magic. Finally, the blue crystal is enhanced with lunamancy, or moon magic.
Together, these three crystals can magically influence a nomad into following the correct paths.
Origin
For thousands of years, the adamnans inhabiting Norrab have struggled to navigate the swirling seas. Constantly shifting, there are few landmarks that remain ever-present. Getting lost was a constant struggle and it never seemed to get better, even with technology advancing. Traditional compasses did not help as they do not work on Norrab.
A solution was found almost a thousand years ago, when a terramancer from the Looming Desert was practicing new magic fields, specifically lunamancy and stellamancy. Several experiments to try and figure out a method of transportation led him to discover that when you charge crystals with these three magics and keep them in a close proximity, they can infest your neural pathways to direct you into travelling in the direction you want, regardless of which way you think you need to go.
How this unnamed terramancer was able to figure this out in anyone's guess, but Norrab nomads thank him for his service, and do not question it.
A donation of blood, hmmmm? Sus.
