Princess Hotaru

The sole heir to the Mainwa clan and the royal line of Kuravale shoguns. Despite her father having passed recently, she has not claimed the title, due in part to her age, but mostly her gender. As a Juijun, Hotaru cannot be named shogun, and the title will instead extend to her spouse. The other clan leaders have thus been eager to please her, in hopes of one of their own Meisho being chosen to wed her. On the surface, she is shy and soft-spoken, but observant people have noted her skill at pitting them against one another and using their eagerness for favor to allow her a great deal of political influence. This power is further cemented by the fact that Governor Hrenkahn is fiercely loyal to her. As her father's advisor, he raised and tutored her for years. Through him, Hotaru acts as the defacto governor of the region.

Apparel & Accessories

Hotaru is typically seen in the traditional clothes of a Juijun of royal blood. This consists of colorful, multi-layered kimono-like dresses that covers most of her body, even dragging behind her, with attendants to carry the trail. This is paired with an ornate headdress and veil, as well as a face-scarf covering the nose down. Typically, little more than her eyes, ears, and some hair can be seen.

Personal history

Hotaru was the youngest of 3 siblings of her father, the previous shogun's, main wife, with another half-dozen or so half-siblings. She was not even born when the empire invaded her home, but lost her two far older brothers to the war. Much to the worry of the Mainwa clan, she was quickly identified as a Juijun, leaving the royal line without a proper heir, as the shogun would have to disown his main wife to pick an heir from the others, and for an unknown reason, the Shogun never produced another child after the war with the empire (many suspect the injuries he sustained left him infertile, though others note the disappearance of the animal god occurred around the same time).
Hotaru was mostly raised by her father's advisor, the soon-to-be Governor Hrenkahn, and spent little time in public.
Quite recently, her father succumbed to old age and illness, and Hotaru has since become more of a public figure, playing a careful political game with the council of clan leaders while awaiting her coming to marriageable age.
