Psionic Surge

Causes

A psionic surge can occur as a result of a person who is capable of using Psionics undergoes a large amount of mental trauma in a short time.

Symptoms

During a psionic surge, a person temporarily loses control of their Psionic abilities. During a psionic surge, a person's psionic abilities will affect the immediate area around them, usually within a five to thirty foot radius, with the radius being larger when the afflicted has more skill in Psionics. These abilities will typically first target the source of the trauma that triggered the surge, then anything around at random. Psionic surges don't typically last for more than a few minutes.

Treatment

Once a psionic surge has begun, it cannot be stopped until it has run its course.

Prognosis

It is not uncommon for a psionic surge to result in Psionic Stress.

Prevention

It is possible for a person to feel a surge about to begin and prevent it, but the amount of mental control this requires is tremendous, and it has only been successfully done a few times.
