Wyvern

Wyverns are a relative of Dragons, but are smaller, non-magical, and aren't sapient. Wyverns are sometimes mistaken for young Dragons.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Wyverns are quite similar to Dragons but are smaller, have only two legs, and are not inherently magical. They also have the ability to breathe fire, an ability that Dragons lack.

Combat

Fighting a wyvern is often quite difficult, because their scales are a very effective natural armor. Small arms will almost never get through, and something like a ballista will only sometimes get through. Generally, the best option is to attack a weak point, such as the mouth, eyes, or wings.   Wyverns have a high resistance to fire, little resistance to electricity, and are somewhat weak to cold. Using an ice spell to immobilize a wyvern is somewhat effective, but can be countered by the wyvern's fire.

Genetics and Reproduction

Wyverns reproduce sexually, and are oviparous. Incubation takes ten months.

Ecology and Habitats

Wyverns can be found almost anywhere, but tend to avoid cold places.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Wyverns are carnivorous, and are not adaptable.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Wyvern scales are often used to make armor, and wyvern bone is prized by crafters.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Wyverns can be found all over the world, but are less common in Zelunica.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Wyverns have above average senses of sight and hearing, and are otherwise average.
