Cano d'Aeris

A rather delightful fellow in the form of a shockingly short bronze deagonborn. After losing an arm and a leg in an accident, Cano and his father Reyn forged him new limbs from metal and Orichalcum.  He learnt from his father's research on Orichalcum and at this point may well have surpassed him. His wielding of wyrdstone combined with his magical abilities makes Cano quite the powerhouse.

Personal history

Reyn and Jona d’Aeris were living and working aboard The Red Juniper, a small, swift caravel. The captain, an elf named Rytial Harkenouten, believes she made a desperate deal with a Kraken decades ago. Now she tries to send as much gold to the bottom as possible to pay off her debt without being noticed. During a quick resupply stop on one of the small islands south of Sollen, Reyn found a large copper egg covered in scales at the town’s market. The egg had been painted with bright green and blue swirls, but the “merchant” didn’t seem to know what sort of egg it was. Given the town’s association with piracy, Reyn guessed the egg was likely taken as a prize from a recent naval capture. Feigning ignorance, Reyn managed to haggle the price of the egg down to just five Silver Pieces.   Once back aboard, Reyn aimed to study the egg before handing over to authorities in the next reputable port they visited. At first sight of the egg, Jona was worried about the possible repercussions of being associated with a potentially stolen Dragonborn egg. They both knew to keep it a secret from Captain Harkenouten. The warmth of the local area and the gentle sway of the boat reawakened Cano in his scaley ball, unbeknownst to Reyn. Several days had passed and Reyn had just about given up on finding anything new from studying the egg, when to his surprise the egg cracked, and a tiny little foot popped out.   Right from birth, it was clear Cano had a fascination for shiny, metallic objects, especially coins. It was this, and his copper colouring that decided his name. Cano was mostly looked after by his father, as his mother had to work above deck to keep the ship safe from storms. The young hatchling loved the sights and sounds of the makeshift workshop he now called home; his bright little green eyes shone with wonder with each ring of the delicate hammer his father wielded as he tinkered and toyed.   Likewise, Reyn took great interest in Cano’s growth and development. The child grew quickly, and by age 3 was almost taller than both his parents. Cano had a talent for sketching detailed schematics, especially ships. He looked forward to each new ship he and his parents travelled on, as it meant a fresh opportunity to draw something new. Though, the one thing Cano resented about moving about so much was the constant loss of friends.   Cano celebrated his 15th birthday whilst his current boat docked at Ville Lyssonne, the capital city of the Kingdom of Lyssonne, as it awaited repairs. At this time, Cano drawing and carpentry skills were widely recognised, and he was heavily involved in not only repairing the ship, but also making some slight improvements to it as well. As the ship was nearing repairs, he and his mother were sharing an evening meal as Reyn came back from an errand he had to run in the city. He giddily clutched a letter in his hand and had a beaming smile on his face, and practically skipped over towards them. “I’ve been offered a job!” he announced. “The Mages' College wants me to join them!”   Having spent the majority of his life at sea, Cano felt lost in the hustle and bustle of the large city, with its high stone walls. His talents for designing ships and naval equipment got him a fairly well-paying job with one of the Guilds down at the harbour docks, but he much preferred life back onboard the boat. So that’s what he did. He packed his meager belongings and offered his services as an Apprentice Navigator and Bosun.   On a recent return to Ville Lysonne, Reyn excitedly showed Cano a small silver box. Upon hold it, he was surprised at its heavy weight. “I finally managed to get my hands on a larger sample!” Reyn said in glee, “a friend of mine over in Kussen managed to sneak some out of the city”. The letters Cano received from his father over the last couple of months had detailed this relatively new mineral called Wyrdstone. He cracked the box slightly and a vibrant green hue shone through, illuminating the lead lining within. “How did you manage to convince the college to let you work with so much?” He asked his father. “I didn’t.” He replied, with a sheepish grin.
