Hobgoblins

It is consensus amongst the genealogical society of Tristromm that this species was simply misnamed. Apart from a vague facial resemblance, hobgoblins share few characteristics with Goblins. They are more similar to the ancient orcs. However, where the orcs sought honour through challenging combat, the hobgoblins see honour only through conquest. 
Their world is hierarchical and each one seeks a path to the top above all else. This makes them untrustworthy allies, ready to betray or steal at a moments notice. Only the orcs regularly use hobgoblin forces, as they have no interest in what they see as the petty interests of their weaker cousins.
They are strategic planners and cruel by nature using goblin underlings as cannon fodder and sending their personal rivals into the thickest of the fighting.
