Session 5: Tempting Fate
General Summary
Summary: In the ashes of Scabberdale, powerful forces struggle for control of fate.
The dust settles in the aftermath of the Battle of Scabberdale. The players have defeated the wizard Seigurt and reclaimed their captured companion, Hamilton.
Shortly afterward, a stranger approaches from the shadows, drawn in by the sounds of battle. The fae Lilith demands an explanation for the destruction of the nearby forest.
As it becomes clear that the adventurers were attacked, Lilith reconciles with the party and decides to search for the aggressor and investigate the stone circle.
From the treeline approaches Kastien, releasing a stolen Goblin captive before announcing his intentions to right a wrong at the Garden of Stones.
Suddenly, time begins to roil back and forth, as if in a tug of war. As the struggle concludes, the adventurers find themselves where they were standing several moments ago, fully aware of the displacement.
Scrugg, Lilith, and Kastien disappear into the forest as Siegurt of Scabberdale fumbles to his feet.
Siegurt, reanimated, looks around in confusion and concern as he pieces together the nature of the disturbance. With the benefit of foresight, he flees using a teleport spell with Hamilton in tow, animating the shadows of the dead to rise and attack.
Lilith and Kastien again arrive, aware of the temporal shift, and assist with the animated shadows.
As the last shadow is slain, Lilith convenes with the Phoenix to piece together recent events and ascertain the meaning of it all.
In a trance, the Phoenix tells the story of the Stone Circles, built on ley lines to strengthen the boundaries between worlds, The Weave.
Upon reflection, she realizes that the forces of fate struggle against an unnatural evil, bent on meddling with the very fabric of the universe.
Kastien departs immediately for Briarwood to search for answers while the teleport spell is tracked to Da Raidin’ Kamp, where Hamilton is likely held.
Under cover of night and foliage, the party successfully scouts their way to the camp. Distracting the guards, Keerla Roween and Manzana provide an opening for Ian and Brunk of Briarwood to pick off sentries. The rest of the party circles around to take advantage.
Under armed guard, Hamilton is found inside of a crate in the center of the camp, where Siegurt of Scabberdale awaits orders from his superiors.
Coaxed by Keerla and Manzana into reliving the fire of their glory days, the Orcs are convinced to raise up against the wizard after being denigrated for allowing the party entrance to the camp.
Having been betrayed in favor of the charismatic party before, Siegurt disintegrates the Orcs using seemingly newfound great power. Undeterred, the adventurers charge.
After a deadly slog, Siegurt is once again defeated, this time the corpse burned with fire from the Feywild to prevent a future resurrection.
With their injured allies stabilized, the party immediately moves to burn the fallen corpses of their enemies and search their remains.
Found on Siegurt’s personnage is a cryptic ledger filled with strange names and records of large payments of gold, as well as a strange dagger-shaped amulet. The party prepares to analyze Siegurt's Ledger and await word from Kastien.
Rewards Granted
Just over 300 gold pieces taken from Siegurt of Scabberdale's personal treasury.
A strange ceremonial dagger hanging from an amulet chain.
Two seemingly inert crystals, shaped to fit perfectly within the hilt of the dagger.
