Session 3 Report

General Summary

Mining duty is rudely interrupted by an attack of shadow creatures, which apparently drain strength, potentially lethally. After a brief visit to the infirmary where they see the results of this kind of attack, Dan Sagittarius, Hiram Snolti Shaw, Valery Calliou, Alexandria Gaeralagos, and Elni Longwind are hired by the warden, Iliric Valann, to go down into the mine and clear it out, since they've done so twice already for different kinds of monsters. They talk the warden into allowing access to their weapons and possessions, and head on in.   Once they locate the shadows, the shadows disappear in a mostly-hidden hole in a back tunnel. Hiram scrounges up some blasting caps and is a little too successful at bringing down the wall, causing a tunnel collapse behind the group. No choice now but to go forward. No sign of the shadows as they move along the tunnel, but after squeezing through a few tight spots and sliding down a couple slopes, they find themselves on what looks like an old underground road, then off it, then on it again. It opens up onto a bridge, which seems to be the site of an unimaginably ancient battle.   Elni determines that the battle must be pre-Imperial, and that the defenders seem to be orc and elf. Val adds that they seem to be literally orc and elf, with most of them having orc and elf blood in some combination. The group locates a handful of magical weapons, and then finds a small cache of magical arrows in some kind of nest. Disturbing the next triggers a spider attack and movement from some kind of horrendous flesh pile full of mouths. A fierce battle later, with one spider corpse, one spider thrown off the bridge, and the flesh pile in gooey shambles, they enter the gates at the end of the bridge, past an entry hall of statues, and into a wide open sort of Great Hall.   From there, they barely have time to briefly examine a corpse that seemed to have had a brief aborted transformation into a magical tree, and then briefly examine a wall of incredible paintings of ancient fortresses, before taking shelter in some antechambers off the second floor to get some rest and recover from the fight.
