Thrall was born into the lowly clan of Grimfang. The clan was poor and lived on the outskirts of the Hrgu realm near the northern boarders. The Grimfang clan was a subservient to the Surfang clan and thus usually led the charge into battle usually suffering most of the casualties. However, they were known for their ferocity in battle and well as in life. A belief of the people of the Grimfang clan was that consumption of humanoid hearts was considered to give an orc the power of the fallen foe and this was instilled with in Thrall at an early age.
Thrall grew up learning the berserker ways from his fellow clan members. Thrall quickly became known on the battlefield for his ruthlessness and fearlessness. When he became of age and was considered a young warrior he was selected for the crater of trails.
During the trails Thrall took many eyes from the slaves of the crater. However, during the sixth night Thrall found himself surrounded by fifteen strong slaves armed with cruelly made weapons. He fought them off wave after wave suffering many wounds even losing his left eye to a spear. At the point of exhaustion and his eventually death at the hands of the slaves something extraordinary happened. The ground gave way as the slaves and him fell into a large cavern. As he reached for a weapon he found his hand on a hilt of a large hammer. With renewed vigor he swung the spiked head of the hammer wildly dispatching his foes in a symphony of blood.
Thrall emerged from the crater missing his left eye and carrying his newfound hammer. He stood in line with the others that survived the trails awaiting judgement of the elders and the “Gore”. Great conflict erupted between the elders and the “Gore” on who was to be named Hargu. On one side the “Gore” and a few elders shouted for Dranosh Saurfang, while the remainder of the elders shouted Thralls name. It was then that the Moon turned blood red and swayed the remaining elders to Thralls side only the “Gore” shouted Dranosh Saurfang name. Thrall was chosen to be Hargu and would take the place of the current Hargu that had died only five days before from nature causes as the “Gore” put it.
Thrall returned to his village on the borderlands to celebrate with his clan, with the festivities going into the night and the people intoxicated with mead is when the Saurfang clan struck. His people where slaughtered before him as his mother forced him to flee and return to avenge his people. Thrall fled to the northern lands keeping his mother’s promise.
Thrall wondered further north eventually reaching the outskirts of Lumberfell. As he made camp, he witnessed a young girl surrounded by a pack of wolves, he leaped into battle without taking pause. He was able to chase the pack of hungry wolves away but not without taking a few wounds. Thrall later woke up in the care of the young girl’s home as she tended to his wounds. Her name was Elena Colster and she was the granddaughter of Elkan Colster, the town healer. Elena was a competent in her knowledge of healing but the actually practice of it on a person let alone a massive orc was too foreign. She did the only things she could think of and that was to tell her grandfather and hopefully he would help.
Elkan eventually returned home that night to find a massive orc in his guest bed and Elena trying to wrap bandages around the orc’s chest. After a lengthy explanation of why an orc soaked in blood was in his guest room, he dismissed Elena to her room. Once Elkan stopped the bleeding and wrapped the wounds, he put the kettle on the stove and spoke to Thrall for a long period of time. Thrall and Elkan discussed Thrall’s journey west, fishing, hunting, his odd chose in clothes and many other things. However, when asked about why he left his homeland, Thrall looked deep into his cup and said for a “promise”. After that Elkan did not ask again but did ask if Thrall wished to stay in the village of Lumberfell to help with the labor? Thrall being Thrall asked plainly “If you got meat and mead, I’s stay”.
After few days had pasted and Thralls wounds had closed, Elkan told Thrall that he would be working for Eryan the Keeper felling lumber. At first Eryan was unsure of letting such a savage work for him but after a couple of days Thrall proved himself by doing the work of three man, this won him no favors with his fellow workers. After shifts he would follow the same routine drink, eat and sleep in a lean-to he had made on the outskirts of town, occasionally Elena would come visit him before his morning shift bringing with her some fresh breakfasts.
