A well-off middle aged Campmagnan man and advisor to his brother-in-law the governor

Krispus Varius was one of the wealthiest citizens of Denpalus  and lived in Vale Garden next to his sister Farra Domitia, her husband Governor Malvus— to whom he was an advisor— and their son Attus. He had a thriving trading business but made some extra money (and excitement) on the side as a upper-low level smuggler, mostly trafficking luxuries to avoid taxes but occasionally in magical creatures. He hid this side job from his brother-in-law and his beloved young nephew, and while his sister may have suspected something she never brought it up.

On his last trip before The Calamity he brought a baby acid drake for Attus to have, but circumstances led to it growing in the sewers and causing havoc. When the heroes confronted him with the slain drake he vowed to change his ways and give up smuggling, going so far as to leave them his manor while he traveled to cleaner pastures.

Before he could leave, however, he was murdered in his sleep by the assassin Cerridwen and his manor destroyed by an ill-formed fire elemental she left behind. The heroes threw his dead body from the burning balcony in an attempt to later prove their innocence while they chased after the assassin. He has since been moved to a secluded room in the governor's house for an investigation.
