Personal history
Tholig was born into a clan of warrior dwarves, the Dragon Slayer clan. He has three brothers and one sister, Thorin, Rathspori, Dwalin, and Sigrun. Being the middle child, Tholig always had a hard time surpassing his siblings in most activities. His frustration made him drift away, and he often chose to keep it to himself, for fear of bothering his parents who already had a lot to worry about.
The young dwarf eventually started to help his clan with several duties, along with scouting mines and the Svimalin Ungdrin with his siblings, who often took the spotlight and credit for exploits that Tholig believed were for the most part his.
He was taught numerous ways of efficiently killing creatures and foes that he might encounter in his missions by his father, Andri. Upon being deemed skilled enough, Tholig was given Andri's cloak and war bow.
His father eventually got ill and bedridden and called for each one of his children. He gave his war hammer to Thorin, his shield to Rathspori, his helmet to Dwalin, and his ancestors' amulet to Sigrun, leaving Tholig nothing other than his words and his dying breath: "Now that I am so close to reuniting with our ancestors, I plead, Tholig. Think of yourself as dead. You have lived your life. Now, take what’s left and live it properly. What doesn’t transmit light creates its own darkness."
Tholig took it to himself then, to live his life properly. He indulged in reading his father's notebook and other books written by wise dwarves. He acknowledged how despite not being the most skilled with an ax, an anvil, or a bow, he could aspire to be the justest, the most merciful, and the most honorable dwarf of his clan.
Year after year Tholig regressed to his father's Tomb, where he reflected upon every thought, every grievance, every vice, and flaw, before coming back born anew.

Morality & Philosophy
He aspires to be just, merciful, honorable, and brave. For a dawri that dishonors his ancestors, is unjust, and evil, is first dishonoring, being unjust, and evil, to himself.
