Personal history
Jinnke was raised in a working-class home that was not notable by any standards really. Her parents had been young when the illness came to the mountain of Whitewall. The illness took the form of lesions on the skin that filled with pus. As unsightly as the lesions were the real danger was in the fever that rapidly heated the insides of the dwarven bodies. As the people of the tribe all began to come down with the illness aid was asked for but none sent assistance except for one. The Church of Ilmater was the only one to answer the plea for help. As the Brothers and Sisters of the church healed the clan of their illness they asked only for a place to set up a temple for those who wanted to worship Ilmater alongside their own deity of Moradain.
The illness ended a little over 100 years ago, but the church's temple still resides in Whitewall. Those who believe are mostly those who were saved by the illness or descendants of strong believers. The majority of dwarves do not partake in the rituals, but they respect others in believing if they choose. The temple accepted those into their ranks if they were able to show selflessness in their hearts and be willing to be open to the ways and teaching of Ilmater.
Jinnke was asked to be brought to the temple during her fifteenth year. Others in the community had noticed her continuous acts of selflessness even during the young age when all dwarves are expected to be little nuisances. During her testing, she expressed a great desire to help others and to ease their suffering in the world. Her heart and mind showed a true conscience and an honest yearn for the life the Ilmater had to offer. She was immediately accepted into the ranks with her parent's blessing.
As Jinnke aged she grew more into the person she would become for the rest of her life. She found the beauty and need for laws in the land. This was a very strong belief in the dwarven community, but Jinnke admired the laws as though they were a diety themselves almost. Laws provided stability and a system for all to be governed by. Good laws allowed for all to prosper under them. These were the laws she upheld and she found that without law the world would most likely collapse into chaos.
Jinnke had been serving at the temple for twenty-four years when the Revered Mother of the House asked to speak with her about her "Suffering." Jinnke had grown very much during her time at the temple. She had shown great devotion to Ilmater and a great passion for easing the suffering of others. The Revered Mother of the House told Jinnke she was to head to the capital city of Galandor, Alexford. She was to wait for her calling there no matter how long it took. In order to make this her first "Suffering" Jinnke was told she was to leave without telling anyone and to tell anyone who asked that she no longer had a clan.
As the attack on Alexford began she helped those injured and suffering from battle. Whose side they were on did not matter for they were injured doing the bidding of others and not of their own choosing. The bodies continued to pile and soon there was no way for her to treat the injured. As the battle continued and the city was being razed she knew there was nothing else she could do. She left with the last of the refugees to Ardshire to be of assistance there. This was the beginning of her journey. The journey that Ilmater wanted her to go on. Now was her chance to serve Ilmater and save others along the way.

Church of Ilmater

Followers of Ilmater were taught to help all who suffered, without regard for who they were or how they suffered. They were to heal and treat the wounded and the sick and give comfort to the dying. They also had to give kind counseling to those grieving or depressed, lonely or lost, and give shelter and alms to those who'd lost everything. They did what had to be done when no one else would. Thus a typical follower of Ilmater was generous and sharing, giving all they could to the poor, and they placed others before themselves.
To the Ilmatari, life was sacred and suffering was holy. They were to carry the burdens and pains of others, and were taught that the truly holy took on another's suffering. They were instructed to endure and persevere against hardship and pain, and believed that if they suffered in the name of Ilmater, then he would be there to support them. Although many outsiders saw them as willing sufferers or they appeared reckless in their quests to do good, they simply cared about everyone, often without regard for their own safety. However, they did concentrate more on healing and aid efforts.
Worshipers of Ilmater also believed that all injustices should be challenged and that they should defend and aid the causes of the oppressed and unjustly treated. They were to act for and defend those who could not do so themselves. They were to stand up to every bully and tyrant, and resist them in any way, both small and great. Ilmatari were encouraged to hold to their principles and keep to their causes if they were right and just, no matter the risk and to be fearless about it. Consequently, they believed that a death with meaning was not shameful.
They advocated the spiritualism of life over materialism and the physical body. If they dedicated themselves to the service of Ilmater, they believed, then he would provide for them. They left the pursuit of wealth and luxuries to others, and sought only medicines and alms.
