When on duty or in an active mission as a Hound of Òlhakeike, Luule Erato wears the full tailored jumpsuit of her station. She finds it extremely important that other residents of the small nation should know in an instant precisely how important it is for their own safety to not pester Miss Luule.
Luule has a couple of cylindrical pouches as part of her uniform allowance. She may have delicate electronic equipment stored there. She is more likely to have padded sample cases for her employer's current research project.
Special abilities
Opal Taevas had psionic manipulation abilities, but something went wrong with the genetic expression during her childhood.
A specialist in creating mutates performed a series of modifications to Opal's metagene. They repaired the damage. They altered some of her mutant ability away from psionic domination, instead causing her to be a fine-tuned and short range pyrokinetic.
Mentality
Personal history
Opal was very frustrated with the world around her, and everyone in it. She saw so much more clearly than everyone with whom she came into any contact: how the world was, how it ought to be, how to get from this point to that one.
People simply wouldn't go along with the simple requirements she laid out, not even when she took the time to painstakingly explain them. Everyone would be happier, everything would work better, if only they would cooperate! But no one did. To make matters worse, when she concentrated all of her considerable will, all her thoughts, on wanting a specific target to take a specific action ... ... the person she was trying to help usually did exactly the opposite!
Opal felt like an unappreciated gemstone jammed into a poorly-constructed setting.
She was interviewing for a prestigious position with an international corporation, and that image of herself as a badly-set gemstone kept popping back into her mind with every noncommital hum from the human resources representative. Opal was perfect for the job. She knew it, even if her resume could not adequately show how exactly right a fit she would be. The questions got more inane with every effort, until Opal realized she was being stalled -- being toyed with, the rest of the appointment time wasted on silly amusements to see whether Opal's will would crumble and she would slink away trailing defeat.
She became so angry that she blacked out.
When Opal awoke, she was strapped to some sort of very high-tech medical gurney, and strange lights were pointed at her. On a nearby monitor, a white-haired old man in a crisp linen suit studied a clipboard, then looked up at his camera. Opal felt as though the old man were looking directly at her, into her, like a jeweller studying the luster of a perfect raw stone.
"She will be poetry," the old man said to someone. "Her innate psionic potential is misrouted, and that is why it keeps generating the opposite of her will. Reconfigure it completely." His voice continued with instructions to staff as Opal's consciousness faded again. Could it be true? Could the one obstacle in her path to power have always been a flaw in her mutant power?
Whoever this supervillain was, that did not matter. What mattered to Opal was that someone with proper technical skill had stepped in to correct her disability. Soon, she would have a functional metagene! Soon, she would set forth to tidy up the world!
Employment
Luule worked for two years as a low-level minion to the organization who used mutating techniques to reroute her original psionic power.
She spent four months working as an independent operator, and she spent another five months employed as a junior partner in a small "consultant" firm.
Luule did not intend to join the ranks of the Hounds. She did not care for being a hostage, or a kidnap victim, or whatever tedious nonsense is the correct name for how she was taken from her place of work and trapped in an underground city.
Luule fully intends on advancing to the rank of
Dragoon only if it comes with significantly better privileges than what she already receives. What she wants most is to lay hands on a cache of supplies from
Òlhakeike and immediately jump ship to
Shawmut. Or perhaps
Transia, if she can combine the opportunity to grab trade goods with an opportunity to misuse a portal?
Because Luule knows, has known for more than four years, that she had been taken from her own reality into a lesser parallel!
