Mica Caradin, a talented bard and artificer, is the family disappointment to a wealthy lineage of vinters from the Duchy of Ulana in the The Final Kingdom. Her infamy throughout the Duchy is thanks to her boisterous nature and penchant for causing trouble with her family's affairs. Her skills as an artificer have helped her achieve great things as a bard, but with only limited results. After a falling out with her father, she became professionally associated with her best friend and minor league wrestler, Xarzith Letni.
Born to Louis and Martha Caradin, Mica was destined to inherit Big Bottle Vineyard in central Ulana. However, one day while traveling to the Duchy of Tarburland with her father to a wrestling event sponsored by their vineyard, she became enamored with the sport and the boisterous, and at times vulgar, music that was played alongside it. She also became acquainted with a young Lizardfolk named Xarzith Letni in the audience. They quickly became friends and agreed to keep in touch via mail. Mica, being of a wealthy family, impressed Xarzith by paying for regular Sending Stone Network messages and even live conversations, keeping them in touch for their adolesence.
After becoming pen pals with the lizardfolk, Xarzith encouraged Mica to pursue her musical career. Her family did not approve and instead sent her to the Crown Artifice College in Vizemia to learn new trade craft techniques to automate their wine making efforts. Instead, Mica learned how to make instruments of her own, and created a masterwork clockwork hurdy gurdy that played a song of her own composition, "Thunderstrike." She graduated with honors, but her family was utterly disappointed in her course of study. Dismayed, Mica continued to assist her family in vineyard operations while playing music on the side. Unfortunately, her hurdy gurdy was only able to play her signature song, which quickly wore out its welcome with returning crowds.
While Xarzith was rising the ranks as a minor league wrestler, he was approached to join the professional circuit. To help him, Mica used money from her family fortune to pay for Xarzith's registration fees and for a professional talent agent. After a falling out over her future with the vineyard following her mother's death, Mica ventured to Tarburland to work for Xarzith as her "hype man," as she put it.
After becoming stranded on the island of Crush after the Circlecrash destroyed their planned mode of transportation, Mica and Xarzith spent the majority of their remaining funds making it through the New Year. During this time, Mica sent several stone messages to her father, Louis, to attempt to reconcile and request payment for a boat back to the Kingdom. After weeks, Mica received no word, becoming worried about their status. After running out of their original travel funds, they began their long journey home by foot, calling off the hype tour.
On 17 Rekindling 9048, the duo stopped at the Last Stop Saloon and Inn north of Normouth for the Day of the Bee where Mica booked herself as the night's entertainment in exchange for free lodging. However, Mica became extremely drunk, unable to perform more than her clockwork hurdy gurdy's single pre-assigned song. The group known as the Partycrashers arrived at the tavern and competed against Mica and Xarzith in a trivia contest, during which Mica breaking her clockwork hurdy gurdy and vomited on the floor when Throden Lowaan emitted a swarm of bees upon the Partycrashers' victory. Later the next day, Throden helped heal Mica's hangover. After this, the Partycrashers left the duo to their breakfast and future travels.
As of early 9048, Mica's father is presumed dead after the group known as the Opening Act was hired by rival vinter, Regis, to visit Big Bottle Vineyard for a job. There, they discovered an Oblex had taken over the compound, as well as taking the form of Louis. The Opening Act found nothing but dry bones and rancid wine barrels after defeating the creature. If this is true, Mica is the sole member of the Caradin family left on Sinderlan.
