Vasya is a warlock and a previous member of the
Ring & Wren. She is accompanied by a familiar by the name of Faithful who usually takes the form of a black cat with purple eyes.
Personal History
Vasya had lived in the
Old Forest with her
Grandmother for as long as she could remember, but she wasn't born there. She was the first child born to her mother and her father, who lived on a little farmstead in the small village of
Dvernick, just outside the Forest’s reach. On the night she was born, her Grandmother visited the village. It was a difficult night, and her mother was in great pain. They feared she would die. After ten hours, Vasya was born, clutching a sprig of oak in her tiny hand. Before she even had a chance to drink her mother’s milk, Granny stole her away into the Old Forest, never to return.
Granny told her very little about that night, and even less about her parents.
“I threw the bones and saw ye fate lay with me,” she told Vasya. And sometimes
“I made a deal with your mother, that’s all ye need know.” Granny buried the sprig of oak and the afterbirth in her garden, and the next morning a
kitten with purple eyes was pawing at their doorstep.
Vasya grew up in total isolation from the outside world. Most of her days were spent cleaning house and cooking for Granny, weeding and managing the herb garden, and exploring the Forest with her kitten, now named Faithful. When she turned twelve, she learned her first spell. From then on, she focused on honing her magical skills, with Granny her stern teacher.
Their relationship was not a loving one. Vasya was forbidden to leave the Forest, to speak to strangers, and from asking too many questions. However Granny provided food, and warmth during winter, and she taught her magic, and Vasya loved magic, so Vasya loved her Grandmother.
On her eighteenth birthday Vasya woke up on the Forest floor. It seemed the house had moved without her while she slept. Next to a dozing Faithful, Vasya found a neat stack of necessities; pack, sleeping roll, cauldron, mortar and pestle. Placed gently at the top of the pile was a book, with a note pinned to it.
“I’ll be watching you."
