Spelunking for Spores

by Tatyi Shalkashla

After nursing my Malort hangover with a liberal share of flapjacks I gifted the Clockwork Amulet prize to my friend Lizzie and debriefed the party on our findings around Fenthik Moss and the Hive Lord quest. It was decided that we would take the 2 day trip by foot to a cavern noted in Fenthik's journal so as to harvest violet fungus spores for an virulent poison. We managed to dispatch the surprisingly ambulatory fungi and collected the spores necessary for an ingestible dose enough to kill or hamper a large creature. On our way back we decided to go directly for the hive. Lizzie managed to sneak poison into and on the carcass of a deer the kruthiks seemed to be dragging into their den. Afterward we dropped lit torches into the smaller holes to discourage passage there and waited until we could notice any chittering that might indicate the poison taking effect. Once we had checked the airflow of the cavern to avoid smoke inhalation we descended into a large cavern deep in the earth. The Hive Lord was still alive but we were able to dispatch with it after a fierce battle and took its head as proof of our quarry. The reward was pocketed at the inn and we prepared for our journey back to Magna Cir'cori, purchasing a draft horse and carriage for the trip over land. We were in the process of leaving town when a hoard of Snow Monkeys barreled through us. In the aftermath a bird appeared congratulating us for bronze membership in a do-gooders society and handing over a stack of business cards. It was only after we'd managed to gather ourselves from the surprise that we'd noticed the Statue we'd come all this way for was gone.
