Ash Wednesday

To Smiling Jack, with respect

by Ashley Wednesday

Dear Pete *Pete has been scratched out* PISTOLIER PETE

I admire your urges to embark upon the sea again and truly you were always a bit of bright sun on an otherwise muggy ship such as the Vixen was. I enjoy your post script and neat hand writing and commend you on your work, as well as your brother on being a good influence.

To Jack, formally,

Dearest Jack, I could see you and I as brothers in bond to a degree, and am glad for your reply. While I do hope for a chance encounter on the sea - combatants or as drinking buddies, however it may come - I perhaps have an offer for you or the brother reading this.

As of the end of our shipboard contract with the Vixen I am time served and free-clear from my sentence to hang. In addition we have been gifted a sloop ship of our own, I and the rest of Pete's Middle Watch, and I only find it suit I offer Pete a seat on the vessel. Both of you are welcome to make work with us should our ports align.

In addition to this offer of general work, I also have come to have questions about our shared benefactor. Igni and I have reached a sort of understanding that should only be discussed in person, but I think you would have interest in assessing for you and your own standing. I see an opportunity for us to share knowledge and goal, while also benefiting the larger crew of The Middle Watch. They are a rowdy group, but having another smooth talker and seasoned sailor aboard would benefit all, while also allowing you and I to discuss our shared interests.

Lastly, I truly see potential in Pete. We have a specialized engineer of sorts - a Tinka as I've heard him joke - that may continue Pete's trade education while giving him some protected semblance of ship-life. Perhaps if you could make your way to Marinette or our next port we could introduce Pete and yourself to the crew as potential hire-ons. The current cadre of seaman is... less than apex. I think the crew would take to you and take care of your brother as we are already familiar with him from our time aboard together.

In summation I hope you sincerely consider my offers and respond in kind soon.

Your friend till Hell,
Ash Wednesday.
