Day 104: Love is in the air

by Hugh Mann

Field Report Havenport: 02

Progress in the Havenport studies is proceeding steadily. I have managed to sustain my diet using Goodberries, and made sufficient bartering income from trading the excess and diving for fish and pearls to cover the costs of lodging, hygiene and enough recreational drinks to remain part of my established social circles. This has allowed me to win the trust of many of the adventurers. The wizard Pandoura (Adepta Ubiquitous) has made a point of bringing me specimens of any unusual wildlife encountered in her travels with the members of the adventurer class, speeding analysis of secondary subjects, although I will have to journey away from this hub eventually for the purpose of returning samples to their native environment. The most notable of these small samples has been a small crab (Brachyura) species found scavenging on the remains of a colossal and ancient corpse. Preliminary examination suggests that these crabs may possess unique immunological traits. I believe this crab species to be newly documented.

Among the primary subjects, a handful more have pierced my disguise, although my established persona seems to have so far prevented major negative effects. The unfortunate cost of working with more intelligent subjects. So far, a tiefling (Adepta Infernus Avius) by the name of Tharvol has observed my form, and seems to possess training in the druidic traditions as well. I have worked to minimize the frequency of taking notes near him. Likewise, the half-elf (Adepta Gregaria) Telvar was able to note the disguise as I carried him for medical treatment. Due to its accidental and self-inflicted nature, his injuries were outside of non-interference guidelines.

On the subject of the half-elf, it appears that he has formed a pair bond with the tabaxi (Felis Hominidae Kuon. Monogamous pairings appear to be the standard for both of their cultures, and any possible offspring will prove strong evidence for a reclassification of tabaxi taxonomy. I will seek to use my social influence with him to support the possibility of such a union.

Other pairings are also forming, although none so notable in species mixing. The wizards Emerald and Pandoura are rumored to be in a relationship, possibly indicating an overabundance of offspring in their homelands, but more likely a coincidence. As both are of the same species, I see little reason to monitor it for more than cultural practices. Similarly, the aasimar (Adepta Celestus) continues to show affections clearly for adepta females, primarily focused on the human (Adepta Ubiquitous) Alanna. Monitoring of the aasimar will continue for biological study, as cross-species compatibility is already known.

The arcanomechanics department will be happy to note an unusual incidence with the tabaxi Cliff. His innate connection to magical energies is artificially limited, due to a seal upon an unknown entity contained inside of him. Analysis of the seal has concluded the entity is from outside of the Tree, and of meaningful power. I have proposed the development of a ritual to allow him to tap into more of these sealed abilities without compromising the seal. Ideally, this will allow an idea of what sort of being is contained within him, and potentially weaken it as well. Notes on the ritual preparations, and structure of his seal, are copied and included with this report.

The news of not receiving assistance in analysis here was unfortunate, but I will strive to do my best to document the forming cultures of the new world, as well as its numerous species. My time studying the local aquatic life has led to at least three new species documented, all within established genuses. I believe I've almost finished notes on general environmental adaptations in this environment as well.
