Vitae to the Traveler
Traveler, if you can hear me, I offer you an offering unlike anything else. I offer you a story, the likes of which you have never heard. This story is still taking place, but to start with the beginning. I am a walking contradiction. My great ancestor made a deal that cursed him and all of his future generations. I pay for this deal with the curse. I do not call this a curse; I call it a blessing. I use my curse to give me an advantage over those who don’t.
Traveler I seek power, but I am not like everyone else. I don’t seek power for myself, no, I seek it for others. I seek power to help those who cannot help themselves. I don’t seek power for my own selfish needs or self-interest, I seek to become the last bastion for those in dire straits. I have no interest in treasure, money, or political power. Nothing brings me more joy than making others happy.
This power I seek is not called power by everyone else. This power is a curse. This curse makes life hell, a never-ending hell. People live their whole lives hoping they never see this curse; they hope their children and their children’s children never see this curse. Most will run in terror, beg and plead when they know that this curse was on the table. I am not like the others.
I know all power comes at a cost. I will pay a heavy toll. I may end up dying to this curse. Even if this is short-lived, it will be a story that will never be forgotten. A story told to children, not to scare them at night, but to teach them not to take from others who cannot defend themselves. I seek to be a monstrous guardian. I seek to be the thing that keeps those up at night who take from those who have nothing.
Traveler, they are weak, without hope, without light, without a hand in the dark. I seek this eternal hell so I can be that hand in the dark, that light at the end of the tunnel. They are alone, I will be their last bastion. Curse me with the Medusa's curse and I will show you what a man with a passion and a wish can do. Pass me the torch and I will light the fire.
