<very private> Seirixori wanted me to look some new information up... Alarys told her about a book that talked about how gods (like Vydea) might have mortal children (like Lucas) because their blood gives them more ability to be controlled than a typical champion. Then she started freaking out because her brand and blood and she thinks Mielikki might want her to be her champion. Or is? I'm not sure. She talks very fast when she's excited. Or anxious. Once she left to deal with things her own way, Ryleigh and I snuck down to the soundproofed room to talk about what that means for me.
And that's when I realized it. She's why I left. She's why my family is mourning their child and I'm... out here. She's why I have to hide who I am and make Ryleigh lie to everyone else. But instead of feeling as betrayed or angry or violated as I know I could be, I just can't stop wondering why she'd do it. There has to be a reason. Even one as small as "to punish me"... I might understand if I needed to leave to better serve her- there are things I can do that I couldn't do with the eyes of the entire country on me, but then she appointed Alarys to be her champion anyway. And why Alarys? If she can manipulate me, control me to some extent, and likely any of the others who bear her blood, what's the benefit of choosing someone who can't? Ryleigh says she doesn't have the blood, so why her?
