Session 14 - 5/15/2020

General Summary

Huren (the 9th month) 21, 1610 - Curatives for the Settlement

The PCs enter the "forbidden swamp", hemmed in on nearly all sides by a black and gray mist that clings to the waters and obscures vision. Sigmund says he would allow Shadow to ride on his bear form to remain dry - Shadow eventually agrees. They follow a mostly dry path until it encounters the flowing river. Here the fog opens up a bit clinging to the cypress canopy. This area exhibits a good many swamp-grape plants, but they all look to have been freshly harvested in this area.   Exploring the area they find a basket containing 1/4 of the swamp-grapes they'd need and a machete.   As they investigate an old ugly woman (Bitrella) rises up from the river amidst a lilly-pad field and begins a calm and lengthy dialog with the PCs. She seems to indicate there should be a payment for their trespass. Egon is largely "honest yet minimal in details" with her as to why they've come and what they seek - which seems to be appreciated by the old woman. She focuses on each PC briefly for a discussion, but scolds Wyd Mar'jinn - who should have known better than to enter the swamp. She seems willing to part with the swamp-grapes in exchange, but the PCs offer nothing for them or for their trespass (other than apologies). She seems to determine than that a test of their abilities would be in order and if they survive they may take the swamp-grapes (or blood fruit as she calls them).   At that 4 lizardfolk skeletons and 2 lizard folk skeletons adorned with runes and shrouded in a purple haze emerge from the muck to battle the PCs. Their initial attack consists of two cones of poisons gas and a flurry of sword attacks, but soon the skeletons go down and the PCs are victorious. During the battle the old woman surfaced from the river several times - seemingly approving of the fight. Near the end she rides a top a giant toad which surfaces and then dives under the water.   All is quiet and the PCs collect swamp-grapes that bob up from the lilly-pad where the old woman was frequently seen as well as a few that were in the basket. They quickly leave and make a hasty trek back to the make-shift settlement.   Teddy prestidigitation to make sure Shadow is dry coming out of the swamp.   They take a short rest while Ebert "Doc" Hoffman finishes up the brewing of the medicine. By the end of the rest, the healer is administering the curatives with the aid of the few who did not suffer any effects. Teddy flavors his dose like "hot chocolate" and others drinks to suite their tastes.   Some of the PCs begin helping serve curatives.   Teddy visits Linden Carmichael and drops off the accounting books. While doing so he encounters Yanigus Bev who is helping deliver curatives. They agree to meet for dinner and A game of "Regiment".   Shadow visits Bera and leaves him a note and a bed roll (to add to his adventuring gear) and reminds him to seek Isenphie to help with his map once he recovers and sets out to find lumber. Shadow also visits Chiplin who is pretty week as well.   Egon checks in on Ansala Bower who is recovering.   Sigmund is preoccupied by the work of the Vodmans... he lurks at the camps edge watching out to the plains. Egon joins him and they hatch the beginnings of plan to pursue them. Egon's concern is why they did it and where are they going. Sigmund believes it is just the beginning of things to come. They enlist Shadow who is willing to travel and Ansala Bower - who needs to get permission from Lord Bellweather for 2 days travel. Sigmund interrupts Teddy and Anicia's Regiment game, but get his commitment to travel as well. Wyd reluctantly agrees to go.   The group sets out and the find the streams source from a spring in the hills south of the walnut grove... they also see remnants of a camp. The pick up the trail and follow it Southeast.   The PCs make camp after dark.
