Session 7 - 3/20/2020 - All PCs at L2

General Summary

Huren (the 9th month) 19, 1610 (continued) - Deeper into the Kelmonite Burial Mound

As the room turns...
After some effort the party moves the turnstile which slowly rotates the room (1 degree for every 20 turns). The are not proficient at it and it is hard to move at first... At 90 degrees a new door comes into view. They have one level of exhaustion from the effort and opt to rest for an hour.
The archive and antechamber
It is opened and inside they find what looks to be a historic archive. There are over 100 old leather scroll tubes that contain written parchment. Most of the tubes are old and deteriorating. The writting is similar to what they've seen but unknown to all (they later determine it is Kelmonite) - howerver Wyd Mar'jinn recognizes numeric symbols that are similar to his own langauge. Each parchment seems to have several entires written on it and each numerically indexed.   The archive has a locked side door which Shadow is able to unlock. Inside they find 7 pedestals and a wall with roots pushing through it. On the pedistals are an assortment of oddities.
  • Clay urn, no glaze - lots of Kelmonite writing (spiritual / holy type concepts)
  • A brass key tarnished and inscribed
  • A magnificent vase with white, blue and red glaze
  • The remnnants of something that looked like a book
  • A heavily coroded Copper tea kettle and cups
  • An equisite knife who's handle is made of antler - it looks to be magic.
  • A growth of translucent blue crystals attached to a a granite base
  • shattered remans of some kind of pottery (it pedistal broken and knocked over - from the intruding roots)
Wyd discovers that the shelves in the archive are arranged in order of oldest to most recent and opens up the most recent scroll (about 150 years after the very first one). The last entry uses similar lizardfolk words for "large scale combat" and "war".   Egon Spenglyr ritual-casts Read Languages and reads a number of things:   The most recent scroll - It speaks of a sudden and unepected attack by creatures described as Cyrloks and the author's concern about the safety of the Kelmonite people.   The bases under the three statues in the round room:
"Our path in life is but a Great Ring, from the dust in the beginning and returning to dust in the end."
"Some circle the ring many times in their lifetime, while others are cut short by just a few revolutions."
"Here we honor our fallen Hanith the wisest, Elderman who ever walked the Great Ring."   The Key's inscription - "Elderman Hanith, you always have access to Tadortha"   A quick scan of the clay urn - holy or spirital texts of the Kelmonite people.
The skeleton trap!
The party returns to the round room and begin to rotate it with much more efficiency - this time the work in shifts and keep up the pace without stoppng for efficiency. The room stops at a new door to the NW and the turnstile will no longer budge. Shadow investigates and as soon as he pushes the door it springs open and skeletons attack!   The party is victorious. In the room they find 3 clay jugs and cups. One jug remains stoppered and sealed - once opened however it reeks of a strong poison.   They search for away to free the stuck turnstile suspecting something must re-engage its mechanism... nothing of interest is revealed in the room, but the door is curious. After investigation it is determined that creative turning and working of the handle would allow the rotation to resume. Sigmund Vaylen, III feels it is a clever feature that would have allowed the Kelmonites to bypass the skeletons in later years.
