Sophie Hamaday

Sophie Hamaday is the daughter of Victor Hamaday, a government official in Lorcaster. Sophie lived a very comfortable life of private schooling growing up and wanted for nothing. Her father, busy as he was, was not always present, but managed to instill in her a sense of hard work and moral duty.   In her teens, Sophie’s innate ties to the Weave manifested, causing her to experience visions. At first, as Sophie displayed an uncommon penchant for prediction and sensing danger, her parents assumed she was simply an insightful and careful child. However, the visions grew steadily more visceral, more portentous of doom, and Sophie began to struggle to distinguish present reality from possibility. Her overworked but well-meaning father tried to get her professional help, but it was not effective and her mental state declined - the "professional" thought she might be possessed and shunned her, damaging her self-esteem and causing her to fear herself completely broken. These were among her darkest hours.   Fortunately, a farseer named Marstron Sendizer from Lorcaster University arrived at the Hamaday home during one of Sophie’s most traumatic visions. He had forseen the awakening of her abilities and immediately recognized her propensity for divination. Under his care and later mentorship, she learned to cope with and even control her gift.   As a student at Lorcaster University, she began to study divination through wizardry in earnest. A diligent student, she found herself at first annoyed with the fire Genasi slacker that always looked over her shoulder during tests, but the two became close friends and eventually began a relationship. In addition to Olivine was Lythara, a fellow student attuned to an ancient source of knowledge.   Sophie and Lythara formed a core group of special students that Ranala Fane, Thurgood Homestead III and other university staff trusted to take on small missions on behalf of Lorcaster University. (Olivine’s personality and habits were both deemed unfit to represent the school in any official capacity.) When Ranala sent Olivine with a group of other adventurers to stop the elemental evil ravaging Surland, Sophie resolved not to simply await his return. While the other adventurers targeted the leadership, there were still many citizens in the Dessarin Valley endangered by the four cults. Furthermore, Sophie was being wracked with visions of calamity, great blazing eyes and the ruin of all things, and her prophetic thread pulled her westward.   Sophie and Lythara, supported by Ranala and Lorcaster University, headed towards the valley to join up with a larger group of adventurers and see how they can help on the surface.
