Pyrius-Powder

Written by DMJustJace

Pyrius-powder is a runic explosive chiefly used to propel a bullet out of the barrel of a firearm. It is stored in airtight wooden kegs or tiny, waterproof cartridges. A cartridge contains powder for six bullets and a keg holds enough for five hundred cartridges.   If Pyrius-powder is set on fire, dropped, or otherwise handled roughly, it explodes and deals fire damage to each creature or object within 20 feet of it: 1d6 for a packet, 9d6 for a keg. A successful DC 12 Dexterity saving throw halves the damage.   Casting dispel magic on pyrius-powder renders it permanently inert.   A cartridge is made with a mixture charcoal from a forge or high heat source, sulfur, and ground Runestone. Cartridges cost 50 gp worth of powdered Runestone and other materials.   Market Value. A keg of Pyrius-powder costs 25000gp A cartridge costs 70gp   Misfire. Whenever you make an attack roll with a firearm that uses Pyrius-powder, and the to hit dice roll is equal to or lower than the weapon’s Misfire score, the weapon misfires. The attack misses, and the weapon cannot be used again until you spend an action to try and repair it.   To repair your firearm, you must make a successful Tinker’s Tools check (DC equal to 6 + misfire score) or cast the mending spell. If your check fails, the weapon is broken and must be mended out of combat at a quarter of the cost of the firearm by an artificer or weapon-smith. Creatures who use a firearm without being proficient increase the weapon’s misfire score by 1.     dndbeyond
