Appearance
Being the son of someone who many claim to be the most beautiful woman in The Varolian, Katamenos himself is an incredibly pretty man, with an athletic build, a sharp jawline, and flowing locks. Between his good looks, sparkling jewellery, and gorgeous clothing, he catches the eye of all who see him.
Personality
At first glance Katamenos is the archtypical spoiled son of an absurdly wealthy family; he regularly spends great amounts of coin hosting lavish parties filled with all manner of hedonistic pleasures, is quick to throw money at a problem despite there being a simpler solution, and often enters private places unannounced and uninvited, believing that his influence alone counts as permission.
Yet, just slightly under the surface rests a generous and genial man whose smile rarely leaves his face. He makes friends easily, even with those clearly just after his power, and is always the first to put a room at ease with jokes or introductions. And despite his youth, he has proven to be a font of sage advice in many situations, including those he has no experience in, proving an ability to empathise that seems antithetical to his playboy persona.
Those who have spent time watching this Xanómenes child, however, have seen the hints of yet another, deeper aspect to him. His rivals are always the first to be gifted invitations to his parties, friends find themselves often divulging secrets or asking for favours, and strangers are presented with so many flattering opportunities to speak about themselves that even the very modest will indulge. Indeed, there is a cunning behind his amicable smile that many might suspect but few would draw attention to.
Abilities
Katamenos' greatest assets have always been his affable personality and keen insight, but he is by no means just a pretty face. A clever mage gifted with storm magics (though he scarcely needs to use them), his most remarkable ability is an utter mastery over the
Xanómenes family disks ; he is able to mentally take command over any disks nearby, even those other people (including other Xanómenes family members) are in the middle of controlling. He has even been seen manipulating multiple disks at once with such natural ease that they could serve in combat, as either shields or slicing edges.
Outside of his magics, Katamenos has a keen political mind and, taking after his
namesake, is a talented architect, having taken over the family business of constructing the many towers in Amphousa years ago.
History
Child of The Storm Herald
The
Xanómenes family have long been known for ensuring that only people of greatness join and contribute to their lineage. One of the most notable unions the family has ever seen was between
Psyche Xanómenes, the scion with incredible potential in both illusion and enchantment magics, and a unique genasi harnessing the infinite potential of lightning named
Astrapos.
From this union were born three children to be raised in luxury and power. Katamenos was the middle child, inheriting both his mother's looks and intellect alongside some of his father's gifts with elecrtical magics.
Friend of The Luminary
Being born into the most prestigious family in the entire region comes with a great many privileges, but having true companions as a child is not one of them. While he was surrounded by people from the moment of his birth, the majority of children around him were simply used as excuses for their parents to talk with his. Fortunate then, was his encounter with a similarly important and lonely child one day.
Zykída Miliades, the divine champion destined to serve
Zia, had been raised from infancy to be a warrior and a hero, barely interacting with anyone outside of her temple. Spotting her training in a courtyard during one of his regular flights through the city, Katamenos introduced himself, and the pair became fast friends. Even all these years later, Katamenos is one of the few people who can set the aasimar at ease enough to lower her guard.
Chief Architect of Amphousa
Katamenos' family have a huge variety of interests and skills, from his father and grandmother working with airships, to his grandfather enchanting magical disks day in and out, to his older sister caring more for archaeology than the world of the living. Katamenos himself, however, seems to be focused around his family's main interests from their earliest days; politics and the construction of enormously tall buildings.
From a young age he was interested in how his city was built, and almost as soon as he entered adulthood he became one of the most influential architects in Amphousa, becoming directly responsible for many of the newer towers that have been recently added to the skyline. Rising in experience and popularity, it wasn't long before Katamenos would claim full dominion over his industry and begin commanding a legion of workers.
Consul of Kosí
For most of the family's history, they have had at least one member serving as either senator or consul, and with his love of politics it was only a matter of time before Katemenos entered into the Senate of Kosí, immediately being voted in as Consul the very first year he ran for it. He's been voted in every year since, working alongside the longstanding Consul Tyberius Kyvern to ensure Amphousa is a bastion of both intellect and industry.
The Aetherius Pillar
An idea that had been in the back of his mind for years before he became a Consul, The Aetherius Pillar is Katamenos' magnum opus. In his diagrams and blueprints he has designed this titanic tower to pierce the very heavens themseves as the tallest building by far in The Varolian. Yet to begin such a wonder would require the permission of both Consuls - fortunate then, that he was to become one of them and from there able to convince the other.
The colossal tower began construction in 670 MA, soon after Katamenos was voted in for the first time, and already it stands taller than most of the spires in the city. Some of the bottom floors have been made usable, and many buildings have been fully constructed around it since the project began, turning what used to be the edge of Amphousa into a prime location for new businesses and families.
While many laud the project and its creator for incredible ambition, there have been more than a few protests over the years. Complaints of the pillar costing too much, fears that it will collapse under its own weight, and even the worry that such a hubristic name and intention will bring down the wrath of the Gods have all been regular talking point since construction began. Whether such detraction is well founded, and if these concerns have reached Katamenos' ears, is so far unknown.
