Lay of the Land
The Ulmaatis mapped out most of Chatau’s Landing when they first arrived. Terrans have since kept most of the names that the Ulmaatis used to refer to places, though there are some places with high density Terran populations or locations with historical importance that they have opted to rename.
For the most part, the land masses have remained the same with the exception of a few of the smaller islands. The largest nine land masses are called (from smallest to largest):
- Sil'kar - in the northern hemisphere
- Pivanc’hi - in the northern hemisphere
- Li’Yskan - in the southern hemisphere
- Penla - in the northern hemisphere
- Jaskor - in the southern hemisphere
- Aljaskardo - in the northern hemisphere
- Ona - in the southern hemisphere
- Conquar - in the southern hemisphere
- Si’Acorl - in the northern hemisphere
The four medium sized land masses are called (from smallest to largest):
- Mis’Unqo - in the southern hemisphere
- Unlo - in the northern hemisphere
- Lunasqa - in the southern hemisphere
- Li’Hakarn - in the southern hemisphere
Sightseeing: Villavan Rise
Although Chatau’s Landing is rather lacking when it comes to inspiring or colourful locations, Villavan Rise is an exception. A frequent tourist location in the south east of Ona, these falls are a marvel of science. Where other waterfalls on the planet fall downwards these ones do not obey the laws of gravity observed by scientists across all species. They rise instead.
There are five waterfalls in total. At the bottom of each fall is Oriquar, a large lake that takes on a bright pinkish hue during the daytime and a very dark purple hue (so dark it is almost black) during the nighttime. At the top of each fall are five separate rivers.
In recent years, a local Terran organisation called ‘Rise & Shine!’ has started to charge people trying to visit these waterfalls. They’ve made it an even more extravagant tourist attraction, setting up lodges for people to stay in whilst they visit the sights and even giving tours around the location, with varying levels of historical accuracy in their descriptions. The Osiryx Federation originally tried to shut the whole operation down, but rumours suggest that they were offered a deal by Rise & Shine and have been taking a cut of the money for years.

You owe me a holiday! And lucky for you, I have the perfect destination in mind. Well, destinations actually - this year’s bonus for being the most wonderful employee ever is an all inclusive, Galactic package with Rise & Shine Holidays.
So here’s what I’m thinking: you and me, five stays at any of R&S’s five star lodges, and three weeks worth of us time. No interruptions! That means no work calls, no friends (okay, maybe some friends, but you get the point).
I was hoping Villavan could be our first stop? A friend of mine visited last year, said it was the only place worth looking at on Chatau’s Landing.
Osiryx Federation Facilities
As of UGY 5650, only two Osiryx Federation (OF) research facilities on Chatau’s Landing are still in use. The first (Si’Karo) is in the north west region of Lunasqa and the second (Veyban’hi) is in the south west region of Penla. Research conducted at the Si’Karo facility is done in collaboration with Terra Novus, as per the amended Section 2.5 in the Sol-Cerberi Concordat.
The Si’Karo and Veyban’hi facilities both have small cities built around them. These were constructed well before Terrans came to Tau Cerberi and they are one of the main reasons why Terra Novus agreed to let the OF keep these sites open. They are two of the most diverse cities on Chatau’s Landing.
Previously, there were 15 other research facilities; one of each of the remaining large and medium sized landmasses and 4 situated on some of the smaller islands. Each of these 15 locations have been closed by the OF and all sensitive material / documentation has been cleared out. Most of them have been left abandoned. However, the Li’Karo compound, the Ulquar’hi compound, and the Li’Titaen facility have since been commandeered for Terran use.
The Li’Karo compound in particular holds a special place in the heart of many Terrans. It was where they were initially housed upon their arrival to the Tau Cerberi system and have used it as their main base of operations ever since.
Rumour has it that there is also a secret OF facility on the planet that even the Terrans don’t know about. Whether or not this rumour has any credibility is widely debated, with both the OF and Terra Novus denying that the facility exists.
Terran Facilities
Chatau’s Landing was the most viable planet in Tau Cerberi for the Terrans to settle on, so it was only natural that they would come to an agreement with the OF that would allow them to start colonising the planet. By UGY 5371, the OF had closed all but four of their facilities, whilst the Terrans had well and truly made themselves at home.
It didn’t take too long for the Terrans to start building complex cities. The first of these cities was built around the Li’Karo compound - aka the rebranded ‘Cerberus House’ - on Conquar and is known as New Dawn. New Dawn is home to the main bulk of the Cerberus Fleet, the original headquarters for Terra Novus, and a vast skyline of apartments and office buildings. Cerberus House sits at the heart of this lively city.
There are a few other cities in Conquar, but none quite live up to the glorified lifestyle that New Dawn has a reputation for. Pretty much every Terran who travels from Earth to Tau Cerberi in search of something more wants to live in New Dawn City and most of these people realise very quickly that it is a luxurious lifestyle that they can’t afford.
The Terrans also built cities all over Chatau’s Landing. From small island cities that offer a quaint lifestyle and a calm or soothing quiet, to larger cities that are, for the most part, trying too hard to emulate New Dawn City.
Beyond these cities are a few isolated villages, the Villavan Resort owned by Rise & Shine Ltd. and a couple of research centers. Those research centers are the Ulquar’hi compound and the Li’Titaen facility that previously belonged to the OF. Although both of these research centers were cleared out of anything confidential, the OF left plenty of their equipment behind as a gift to the Terrans to aid in their research, since at the time OF technology was far more advanced.
