Dougal Conleth

History

Conleth was born into a family of middling Pacters. They were neither exceptionally strong nor weak like some self-taught amateurs. They held to common belief that Shadows were merely constructs built by Pacter formulas from metadimensional energy.

His family lived and worked in Burntwood, known for being the only large neutral city, as part of a construction team. They would use their Shadows to supply a portion of the manual labor, especially when it was a hazardous job.

When Conleth was sixteen, "rogue" Hunters began a series of murders on Pacters within Burntwood as part of the ongoing war between the two factions. Conleth's parents were killed when they and their fellows were on a job near the outskirts of the city.

After the death of his parents, Conleth was let out into the world as an adult. He sold his home and left Burntwood behind. He moved to Ramsgate, the largest Pacter stronghold city, and began looking for apprenticeship under combat Pacters in hopes of getting revenge on the Hunters that killed his parents. He was accepted by a Pacter but his master forced him into dueling other Pacters for entertainment. These fights often ended in serious injuries to both Pacters and occasionally deaths.

Surprising everyone, Conleth grew rapidly into his role of Pacter and Fighter. He quickly learned how to effectively fight with and alongside his Shadows leading to him gaining some amount of fame. After he achieved this level of success, he scorned his old master and used the profits from his fights to further his independent study of Shadows and the creation of Shadow Formulas. He would also begin to believe that Shadows were true individuals that were called and not simple constructs. He would attribute his success in fighting alongside them with this revelation.

He did this into his late twenties before he decided he was ready to take the fight to the Hunters. He gathered a small group of Pacters with him and set off to begin hunting Hunters near Burntwood. This was the start of a many decade crusade that ended with Conleth in the heart of what had been the city of Astoria before he and his men destroyed it, earning him the title of Devourer.

His crusade ended after that because of his deep regret for what he had done, but when he decided to end the conflict, many of his subordinate Pacters and even his freed Shadows rebelled against him. The ensuing fight ended with most of the strongest on either side dead and the rest scattered.

Conleth himself survived and chose to leave Helgreg with the aid of his Astral Hunter. He now makes his home in a semi-functioning ship located inside of Yungay Station.

Personality

  • I'm retired, leave me be
    • Conleth was and is a top class Pacter, but he left his life of fighting and power behind him. All he wants is to be left alone in his derelict on Yungay Station.
  • I hate the man I become
    • Conleth projects all the negative traits he sees in himself and his past onto an alter-ego. He feels he became this other him when he fights and when he was in power.
    • Conleth feels both regret for some of the things he has done, and a fear that if he were to go back to his old life he would do just as horrible things.

Capabilities

  • Master of Shadows
    • Conleth is a true Master at the art of summoning and binding Shadows.
      • Mechanically, he is a Level 10 Pacter.
    • He has many unique Shadows and was known throughout most of the planet as one of the most dangerous Pacters alive.
  • Void Walker
    • Conleth is the only known Pacter that knows how to call a variant of a Star Phoenix that is willing and able to fight.
    • This Phoenix is capable of taking on Starships (although it hasn't because there are no working ships in his system) and other lesser Star Phoenix
    • This means that if he wants, he can restrict all humans on his planet from reaching the stars while he lives.

Former General and Warcriminal. Presumed dead but is hiding off world. Deadliest Pacter to ever live.
