Wood Elf

Wood Elves are a subrace of Elves who have abandoned the large-scale civilization of their brethren and have taken to living in large forests alongside nature. By no means tribal, they still maintain the hallmarks of Elven tradition with the oldest members of society receiving the greatest respect, receiving high-ranking positions, and generally administering groups. Wood Elves are more militant than most other Elven groups as they are more determined to defend their forests thanks to their absolute dependence upon it. They are excellent warriors and rangers.

Social Structure

Wood Elves form Elder Councils with leaders elected from among the eldest members by a vote every few years. The leader acts as a military figure and often serve consecutively until their deaths. Otherwise, most decisions are made by each village's Elder Council.

Wood Elves are restricted to Great Forests where they often cohabitate with Forest Spirits, Dryads, and Firbolgs.

Wood Elf society is more strictly patriarchial than any other Elven society with the Elder Councils being restricted to male members.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Wood Elves are the Elves known for constructing villages among gargantuan trees and fortresses hundreds of feet above the ground in the canopies of magical Great Forests. Such fortresses are often the combined work of dozens of communities and exist to serve every community should the need arise.

History

Shaken by the cataclysm that destroyed Archefyre, some Elves sought to distance themselves from the civilizations which they saw as responsible for this disaster. Modeling themselves after Forest Spirits and beasts, the ancestors of the Wood Elves began their history in Aberiam by living in close-knit forest communities. Over time, they developed into modern Wood Elves.
