Drow

The Drow, or Dark Elves, are the survivors of the cataclysm which destroyed Archefyre. Transported to Shadowvale, Drow fled into the Undercroft through rifts in Shadowvale. Their culture is greatly diverged from that of the Elves and the Eladrin.

Biological Traits

Thanks to having spent thousands of years in the Undercroft and Shadowvale with scant access to the surface, Drow have difficulties operating in direct sunlight.

Social Structure

Harsh conditions produced a harsh culture for the Drow who formed a matriarchial culture based on personal ability to seize power. Despite attempts to prevent widespread anarchy, Drow possess a propensity for backstabbing that is not to be underestimated. Drow females stand at the top of Drow social structures and form the bulk of all government positions with males mostly reserved to manual labour and service in armies.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Drow are found throughout the major portions of the Undercroft with some small colonies in the Shadowvale near rifts between the planes.

Female Drow are the dominant force in Drow society with males being seen as expendable pawns by most.

History

Trapped in the Shadowvale and Underdark after Archefyre was destroyed, the Drow suffered greatly at the hands of the Shadow Lords and the Underdark itself. Managing to reach closer surface layers, the Drow encountered the Minotaur, one group of the Undercroft's native inhabitants. Waging wars of conquest, the Drow managed to establish themselves in former Minotaur cities. Similar wars rage to this day, exacerbated by the arrival of the Deurgar from the unknown portions of the Undercroft.
