Merata

Merata is a small town on Ciello. Its primary industry is its fisheries, as well as serving as a secondary base for the ducal fleet. It is notable for its surviving examples of elven architecture from the Occupation.

Demographics

Most of the people in Merata are fishermen, or dependant on the town's fisheries. The towns population are largely human, although they are often said to have elf-like features; a legacy of the Occupation, when Merata was an elven settlement.

Government

While formally under the control of the Duke, the town if remote from Cunaris. The area is administered by the Baron of Merata, and the town's Council.

Defences

The town is walled, although the fortifications date to the pre-gunpowder era. There is a modern fort guarding the dock area which is equipped with powerful naval guns.

Infrastructure

The town serves as a secondary base for the ducal fleet. It is a deepwater harbour, capable of hosting a dozen large ships at a time. The dockyards are sufficient to preform standard maintainance on most large vessels. Some of the dock facilities date from elven times, and incorporate magic in their operations.
