Ázalic Languages

Ázalic is a general term for the various languages spoken by Áali and Záali in the regions of Áal and Záal in northwestern Adynía, most of which are either darkic languages related to mirkenic (nemirkían) ones to the south and southeast or lalic languages related to those spoken primarily in the Wild Mountains far to the east, along with a couple of isolates.
The latter two were introduced by the earliest inhabitants of the region during paleolithic times, while darkic speakers are descendants of the natives of Darka Mountains to the east who fled to the lowlands as the dwarven Halinkazíans conquered the mountains some 15.000 years ago.
Historically, a branch of ázalic languages known as vakkalic was spoken on the Meldon Plain in central Adynía, brought by záali who invaded and later in the region around the end of bronze age some 5000 years ago, but was eventually supplanted by Paþarian and other mirkenic languages.

Writing System

Záali shamans and mages along the coast use a writing system known as fish-hook script for mostly ceremonial purposes as well as to ease trade and other communication between different tribes.

Geographical Distribution

Lalic languages and the isolates are spoken along the coast, from the mouth of Þixos Bay to the northern tundra, while darkic speakers are found in the eastern hinterlands.
