The Darka Mountains1 are located in northern Adynía, between the Meldon Plain to the south, Záal to the southwest, Áal to the northwest, Silver Sea to the north and Gráhúlysía to the east. The region has been the home of the dwarven Halinkazíans since they migrated there from the Lakú Mountains (and the western Wild Mountains before that) to the east millennia ago.

Geography
At the heart of the mountain range is Úz, Adynía's largest lake, which has two notable islands in it, namely Brika and Örtúzan. Most mountain peaks are snow-capped throughout the year, the tallest ones being Nam Himaz, Nam Ahimaz and Nam Aþrúk, the latter meaning Kitten Mountain, a reference to local legend of an old woman whom the first settlers encountered, whose numerous cats became the ancestors of the modern breed which keeps vermin away from the granaries.
A vast network of caves, natural and artificial alike, are found under the mountains, along with mines and quarries.
Summers are short and just warm enough to support agriculture around the shores of Úz, while winters are long and cold.

Fauna & Flora
Most of the wildlife in the Darka Mountains consists of birds (including common eider on Örtúzan), bears, wolves, foxes, wild sheep and goats, most of which are generally found in the more remote parts of the region, while domesticated sheep and -to lesser extend- cows dominate the area around Úz.
