Nala Vaarhin
Vaarhin Nala is a dragonborn rogue who was accused of murdering her uncle, Vaarhin Sobith, and stealing the Crown of Yulgotorix. She is trying to prove her innocence, avenge her uncle, and find the Crown. She is a companion of Nyx of Sabancaya in the Kalvasto Campaign and is played by Sarah Kuther.

Nala has the Kinslayers Brand burned into her flesh below her left eye. She usually covers the marking with an eye patch or cloth.

Personal history
Vaarhin Nala was born in Arush Hayek on the 9th day of Reaper's Harvest, 1156 to Vaarhin Kava and Nesjurn Torrin. She had a relatively happy upbringing until her parents were slain in a border skirmish between a Drakani scouting party and forces from the Holy Kingdom of Veral. This event was devastating to the young dragonborn, but due to the efforts of her uncles Balasar and Sobith; and her honorary aunt Ralaan, Nala managed to have a relatively happy upbringing. She could often be found getting into mischief with her cousins Nadar and Ghesh and training with her uncles. Ralaan would often sneak her treats long after her supposed bedtime, much to Balasar's annoyance. She and her uncle Sobith would often sneak down to the mess hall and raid the kitchens.
This happy upbringing changed however, when Sobith was murdered and a sacred dragonborn artifact, the Crown of Yulgotorix, was stolen. Nala had been out causing mischief with her cousins the night of the murder and they were caught painting graffitti on the side of a shopkeepers house. The three young drakani split up and Nala ended up hiding in a barrell near the northern gate of Arush Vayem. As the city came more alive, Nala realized that Shadowscale agents had been deployed. Fearing being caught and disciplined, Nala continued to hide in the barrell, but she was eventually found. Much to her confusion, she was brought directly into a Shadowscale interrogation cell instead of being brought back to her uncles. Whomever had murdered her uncle had framed Nala perfectly, and in the days that followed; the trial was swift and decisive. So decisive in fact, that Nala could not even defend herself in front of the courts.
In a matter of a few days, Nala was branded with the Kinslayer's Mark, the worst offense a drakani could commit in the eyes of their people, and was set to be executed the next day. The night before her execution, as the young drakani lay in her cell, their was a loud explosion outside of the Shadowscale compound. This distraction combined with someone leaving a key in her cell, allowed Nala to escape from her cell and flee everything she had ever known. Seizing upon this opportunity, Nala made her escape from Arush Vayem, vowing to find the true culprit to her uncles murder, retrieve the Crown of Yulgotorix, and clear her name and her honor.
Shadowscale agents quickly realized that Nala had made her escape and she was relentlessly pursued across much of southern Zaido. She evaded capture throughout Veralian territory, but she was eventually cornered on a stormy cliffside by the sea. In a last desperate move to avoid capture, Nala dove into the stormy sea to esacpe her pursuers. The next thing that Nala remembers is waking up half dead and clinging to a piece of flotsam in the aftermath of the storm. She swam to shore and began to make her way north. For the next seveal years, Nala survivied by sleeping in barns and camping in the wilderness while taking odd (and often illegal) smalltime jobhs to make ends meet. The skills that her uncles and Ralaan taught her were crucial in her survival during these times. Though her escape into the ocean had delayed Shadowscale pursuit, Nala knew that someday they would find her again. She always found herself looking over her shoulder, expecting to be taken back to Arush Vayem at any moment. This made it difficult for Nala to fully open up and trust others.

During this interim period, Nala worked alongside Nalthek the Bonebreaker and the two had an amicable relationship and saved eachothers lives on several occasions.
In the early winter of 1179, Nala found herself cornered in a tavern by two bounty hunting thugs working for the Rallac Family. They said that they would not turn in her bounty if she promised to protect a shipment of Gorgon's Gaze that had recently been aquired by the Rallac's. Having no other choice, Nala reluctantly agreed and Nala was escorted to a small barn outside of the city of Kalvasto where the drugs resided in a cart. You know how the story goes from here...

She is mission driven..blinded by a desire that might one day hurt those if she cannot see what she is doing..

- Nala is friends with Dimre Vorpal. They have a friendly rivalry and often try to one up the other. They like to "hang out on a rooftop ;)" together, according to Nyx.
- Nala is a friend of Wilmer Oravec and his grandaughter Abi Oravec. She has come to regard the kindly old cartographer as a source of wisdom and has set up cooking lesson's for his grandaughter, mostly to save Wilmer from her cooking.
- Jovina Barcov has saved Nala's life and vice versa. Jovina has been a staunch ally of Nala's will stand beside Nyx and Nala to the bitter end. After all, she owes several lives to both of them; and she will give it gladly.
- Nala is a friend and companion to Nyx of Sabancaya. The fire genasi and Nala don't always get along or agree on a course of action, but having saved each others lives several times over has created a lifelong bond between the two.
