Drakantal Empire
The Drakantal Empire, named for the Drakantal family of Dwarves, was a Dwarven monarchy that existed in the northern regions of Arak, including the Anduskian Grasslands and Esterburn Highlands regions, as well as the region now known as The Blasted Lands. The empire was formed in the mid Age of the Founders period, and lasted until the mid Age of Creation period when their civilization was wiped out by the Voidspawn. The remnants of the Drakantal Empire live on in the form of the Ashenfolk in The Ashlands region of Reshyk, after they migrated back to their homeland and were banished from the mainland due to their revenant-like appearance.
When the Voidspawn destroyed the empire, the last member of the Drakantal family was killed, and a new family led to the rule of the Vastek royal family, which ruled over the Ashenfolk until the late Reckoning period, after which there was a revolution, and the Vastek royal family was executed for crimes which have been forgotten to history. Their name remains a curse in the Ashenfolk dialect of Dwarvish to this day. After their family was executed, the Hardak family began their rule, which remains in power to this day.
Although the Drakantal Empire was thought to only be present in northern Arak, ruins unearthed by the Antiquarians' Guild under the Great Divide revealed an underground city named "Blackfrost" that showed that the Dwarves may have had a presence beneath the Elves' very feet until the very end of their empire.
After the Drakantal Empire was wiped out, the Kingdom of Derunadel assumed control of their territories.
