Shivering Echoes

There is a Wellspring anomaly found throughout both the Esterburn Highlands region of Arak and throughout Reshyk. Occasionally, there will be sudden snowstorms that rage fiercely for but a few minutes, only to clear up as if they were never there, even if the weather was perfectly clear before. After the storm settles, it leaves behind a thick mist. Inside the mist, sound echoes faintly and there are localized gravity distortions that cause rocks and small objects, and even sometimes small animals such as squirrels, to float and hover a few feet above the ground. There will also be faint voices that can be heard in the mist, and if you follow them, you may encounter a spirit, giving off a faint glow, that will go through motions unaware of or unconcerned with its observer's presence, as though it is reliving past events.   When the anomaly subsides, the floating objects will suddenly drop from the air and spirits will gradually fade away. Only a handful of the spirits observed in this anomaly have been identified, and they are usually those of local heroes long since passed. Though perhaps those that have not been identified are simply ancient heroes that history has forgotten.   In Goliath culture, there is a fear of this anomaly in particular because it is believed that these spriits are heroes who displeased Estrea or died dishonorably, and were cursed to relive their failures, forever cut off from the afterlife. Goliaths will often flee from this anomaly or shut their eyes and clamp their hands down over their ears. However, Dwarves cherish these glimpses into the past and there are many who tell stories of these encounters around the fire at local taverns. Their view is a polar opposite to that of the Goliaths, believing that this anomaly preserves the memory of their honored heroes so they will never be forgotten.
