Sivien Civil War
The Sivien Civial War is the name given to the conflict involving all the Great Families of the Frost Plains, namely the New Norveil Coalition comprised of the Kell family armies lead by Rast the Turncloak and the Smoke Family family armies lead by Donhiro Smoke, and the Sivien Armies made up of the Medvidev Family family armies lead by Great Jarl Wodin I, the Riversalt family armies lead by Jora Riversalt, and Rostov family armies lead by Niles Rostov. At the time, It was the largest, bloodiest war in the region to date.
The Conflict
Prelude
Rast the Turncloak and Donhiro Smoke rose up with a backing of their bannermen to take Siv and cast down the Great Jarl Wodin I and the Medvidev Family. They gathered and marched on the capital intending to take the city. Wodin I mustered his local forces of 12,000 soldiers and called the remainder of the county's forces from the Riversalts of Reed to the east who had 8,700 men, and the Rostovs of Preet to the far north who had a force of 4,300. He ordered them to the capital with haste.
The Engagement
Major Battles and Conflicts
- March on Siv -- First battle of the war when the Coalition attacked the city of Siv. During the three day battle three dragons along with thier riders (Mountainside and Prince Mykhail Medvidev, Vensight and Talin Smoke, and Carant with Princess Arleena Rostov) were killed along with 18,000 soldiers, the Great Jarl's second son Fyoder Medvidev among them.
- Seige of Slate Sky -- After the initial loss at Siv, Wodin I changed his orders to the Niles Rostov (who was still amassing troops and supplies) and ordered his 4,300 to attack and take Slate Sky. Six months after the March on Siv the Rostov Army arrived at Slate Sky, they seiged the city which had been sealed, and the Rostovs began to build seige equipment (them being a smaller house they hadn't had any before hand). The seige lasted nearly a year before the equipment was completed and used to breech the walls, the city fell within a day. After arresting the members of the Smoke family and leaving a garrison of 750 men to keep the city, Rostov took his remaining forces and marched south toward Siv.
- Invasion of Karak -- Since Siv was sealed and surrounded the Riversalt Army led by Jora Riversalt had to detour to the north to cross the Northflow river, a journey that added months to the march. Instead of coming to the city Wodin I ordered Jora to take the short journey west and take Karak after crossing the river. The short decisive battle left what remained of the Kell army in the area in shambles before they sealed the gates to the city. Jora began a seige that would last 10 months before he finally breached the wall. During the fighting to win the city Jora killed Greg Kell, Rast's second son. With the city secured Jora waited for Niles to finish attacking Slate Sky before the regrouped the army, garrisoned 1,000 troops, and marched on Siv.
- Second Sivien Rush -- Last battle of the war. Took place outside of Siv when Jora Riversalt and Niles Rostov arrived from the south with thier armies. The battle was fierce and the death toll high as the dragons Alerint, ridden by Rast the Turncloak, and Rax, ridden by Jora, raked the armies with dragon fire. The battle ended when Rax bit the head off of Alerint and sent Rast falling to his death.
Outcome
Aside from Rast the Turncloak, there were many of the Kell and Smoke families that died during the battle including, Cardin Smoke (2nd sone of Donhiro), Myles Kell (Son of Rast), Lacy Kell (Sister of Rast) burned by dragon fire, and many more that dies in the last battle of the war, crippling both families for generations.
Aftermath
Ended with Donhiro Smoke being executed by beheading for treason in the Greystone Keep court yard, along with other of the rebel New Norveil Coalition family members including Gertrude Kell (First Daughter of Rast) Hest Smoke (Donhiro's first son), and Alexander Smoke (Donhiro's brother). They were beheaded by Great Jarl Wodin I personally with Darkfire. Donhiro was executed last.
Historical Significance
Legacy
- Rast "the Turncloak" Kell's title of Jarl of Karak fell to Rast's baby grandson Gregor Kell.
- Donhiro Smoke's title of Jarl of Slate Sky was passed to his young neice Lieless Smoke who reswore thier family's alligence.
